A massive 29-7 home win over Cornwall keeps Lancashire well on course for their third consecutive UKDA Nation League Cosmo Darts Premier Division title as their 230 points from nine fixtures gives them a lead of forty-seven over second placed Yorkshire who despite having a game in hand now have a mountain to climb to catch Lancashire. Yorkshire lost ground in the title race as their eighth game saw them somewhat surprisingly lose 19-17 away to Hampshire who are placed seventh in the table and even after their win trail their opponents by some thirty-eight points. Warwickshire had a good 25-11 home win over Humberside to see them move up into the top three places with 173 points just ten behind Yorkshire.
At the other end of the table it is not looking good for either Staffordshire or Humberside as the former is next to bottom on 112 points and the latter bottom with 106 points. Second and third from bottom Cornwall and Dorset are both on 144 points, Humberside have played one game fewer than the teams above them.
Top averages for the premier division were shared by just two teams Hampshire and Lancashire. Hampshire’s Chas Barstow had a fantastic 35.79 average in his straight 4-0 win over Yorkshire’s Danny Dutson to clinch the men’s ‘A’ award and taking the ladies ‘B’ was Hampshire’s Jo Rolls with a 23.86 average and 3-0 success over Yorkshire’s Sara Mortimer. Lancashire took the men’s ‘B’ and ladies ‘A’ awards with James Lawson beating Cornwall’s Jaden Whitting 4-1 and averaging 28.61, Lincolnshire’s Richard Hubbard not far behind as he averaged 28.58 in his 4-2 win against Staffordshire’s Marco Aldaba. The ladies ‘A’ award went to Eleanor Cairns (Lancashire) who had a super 25.47 average in her 3-0 win over Cornwall’s Pauline Mead.
In the Andy Wheeler Fisheries Championship Division the top two teams Hertfordshire and London held on to their respective top and second positions with Hertfordshire having played their rearranged game one fixture away to Oxfordshire and winning 20-16 while London had a 21-15 win at West Midlands. With 194 points Hertfordshire have an eight point’s advantage over London, they in turn are nineteen to the good on third placed Cambridgeshire who after their 19-17 win at Cleveland have replaced Northamptonshire in the number three position after they were held to an 18-18 draw at home by Derbyshire and as a result drop one place to fourth with 166 points and although only one point behind Cambridgeshire they have played nine games compared to Cambridgeshire’s eight.
Cleveland with just 116 points look set to be relegated to the L-Style division one as they are seventeen points short of Derbyshire who are just above them and have a game in hand. Second from bottom West Midlands are on 136 points just three ahead of Derbyshire and again Derbyshire have a game in hand on them which would almost certainly see West Midlands drop into the bottom two, however the two teams will square-up to each other in the next fixture and the outcome of that could well decide who will be relegated.
The top men’s ‘A’ average for the Championship Division went to Oxfordshire’s Sean Holley who had a 4-2 win over Cheshire’s Daniel Downey and averaged 33.75 while the ladies ‘A’ award went to Cheshire’s Vicky Pruim who had a superb 26.47 average in her tremendous 3-2 victory over Oxfordshire star Deta Hedman. Scott Baker (West Midlands) topped the ‘B’ teams averages, his 30.72 average and 4-1 over London’s Dean Buckland earning him the award. Topping the ladies ‘B’ averages was Derbyshire stalwart Jane Densley who averaged 24.64 in her 3-0 win over Northamptonshire’s Faye Mason.
Berkshire suffered a setback to their promotional hopes in the L-Style Division One as they went down 19-17 away to Gwent and drop to fourth place on 177 points while their hosts and victors moved up to second place on 179 points. Leaders Suffolk had a bye but remain in pole position with 191 points and have a lead of twelve over their nearest rivals Gwent. Merseyside who played their away game with Tyne and Wear a week earlier in April had a 25-11 win and move up from fifth in the division to third on 177 points the same number as Berkshire who with nine games under their belts have played one more than every other team in the division apart from Somerset. Fifth placed Leicestershire are not out of the frame, their 20-16 win at Devon putting them on 176 points, just three short of second placed Gwent. It looks as though it is going to be a close run in for promotion for division one with any of the top six teams still in contention.
Black Country won two of the weekend’s match awards as their Tammy Chance had the highest ladies ‘A’ average 21.19 in her 3-1 win over Buckinghamshire’s Suzanne Smith while Rich Bowen took the men’s ‘B’ with his 3-2 win over Mark Boardman and 28.93 average, Buckinghamshire’s Liam Maughan just losing out with his 28.90 average and 3-0 win against Black Country’s Connor Whitehouse. Paul Self (Berkshire) was the top men’s ‘A’ player averaging 31.81 in his 4-0 win over Gwent’s Nico Ruiz-Roynon, the ladies ‘B’ award going to Somerset’s Lea Ford who beat Gwynedd’s Mandy Williams 3-0 with a 25.91 average.
It’s all-change at the top of division two with the top two teams and the second and third placed teams swapping places. Former leaders Clwyd were held to an 18-18 draw away to Worcestershire, Clwyd’s 182 points leaving them one short of new leaders Middlesex who move up one place following their 21-15 home win over Nottinghamshire. As a result of their 22-14 home win over Wiltshire Salopian move up into third place with 169 points, their opponents losing third place and dropping to fourth with 163 points just one more than fifth in the division Worcestershire.
A fine 32.22 average and 4-1 result against Wiltshire’s Josh McCarthy earned Salopian’s Gary Crowther the men’s ‘A’ award while the men’s ‘B’ top average was 29.61 and was recorded by Nottinghamshire’s Paul Harvey who beat Middlesex man Tim Green 3-1. Top of the ladies ‘A’ charts was Rachel Kingdon (Clwyd) whose, super 24.24 average helped her to a 3-0 win over Worcestershire’s Sophie Hadley while the top ‘B’ team average of 20.04 went to Norfolk’s Nikki Goldsmith who won 3-0 against Lou Ballantyne (West of England).
Northumberland extended their lead at the top of division three from thirteen to nineteen points with their huge 28-8 win at Isle of Wight while second placed Cumbria had a lesser 22-14 home win over Gloucestershire. Although Cumbria are nineteen points behind the leaders they do have a game in hand on them. A 20-16 home defeat at the hands of a Wirral outfit saw Breconshire lose third place in the table and drop to fourth with 171 points, five behind their victors who move up from fourth to third.
Although his team Pembrokeshire lost their home game with Shropshire 23-13 Llew Bevan chalked up the highest men’s ‘A’ average of 29.47 as he accounted for Shropshire’s Andre Knox with a 4-0 result. Top of the men’s ‘B’ averages was Breconshire’s Riley Rees-Tucker who averaged 29.29 in a 3-1 win over Wirral’s Phil Hignett. Breconshire also had the top ladies ‘A’ average as Kaye Hales beat Julie Baines (Wirral) 3-0 with a 21.78 average, the ladies ‘B’ award going to Cumbria’s Emma McGarvie who had a 22.41 average and 3-1 win against Gloucestershire’s Hannah Smith.

After a somewhat disappointing start to their new campaign in the Cosmo Darts Premier Division of the UKDA National League whereby they lost the opening three fixtures, Warwickshire County Darts Organisation have now returned to the form they are noted for and in their latest fixture made it four consecutive victories to lift them into the top three places of the division.
Going into their eighth of a scheduled ten games Warwickshire who were lying in fourth place took on bottom of the division Humberside at their home venue the Hen Lane and District Social Club. 6 Beacon Road, Coventry, CV6 4DS. Saturday’s ladies ‘B’ match saw the first two games go in favour of the first throw advantage with Humberside’s Vikki Tasker beating Denise Keyte 3-2 after Keyte had won the first two legs in the opening game. Levelling up for the home side was lady of the match Chloe MvKivett-Saunders who with her 16.34 average and straight 3-0 win defeated Rachel Harrison. Nina Bolt broke the sequence when in the third encounter she won 3-2 against Karen Helmore to put the home side ahead for the first time in the game. However the lead didn’t last long as Bex Waterfall won 3-0 against Caroline Pike and with a similar straight win from Sue Bilby over Wendy Adams the away tem were 3-2 up with the result hinging on the final game. Last on for Warwickshire was Angela Jones and for Humberside Aleisha Blakestone. Blakestone won the first leg but it was Angela Jones that won the following three for a 3-1 win to give the home team a share of the points in a 3-3 draw.
The men’s ‘B’ stormed into a 4-0 lead with wins from Mark Strong, Mark Martin, William Naylor and Mark Faulkner who in turn accounted for Luke Rutter (4-3), Kev Richmond (4-1), Paul Robinson (4-2) and Ricky Speroni (4-2).Neil Dobson pulled one back for Humberside in the fifth when he, after being took to a deciding leg won 4-3 against Mark Carter but by the halfway stage the home team were 5-1 up after man of the match Samuel Price won 4-1 against Liam Gordon. Price won the first leg in 18 darts and although Gordon levelled the game in the second leg Price then added 14, 19 and 20 dart games to seal his 4-1 win with a 27.04 average.
The away side got their second winner as the second session got underway, Carl Robinson winning 4-1 against Adam Hancock, but a draw was secured for Warwickshire as early as the eighth game when Noah Rose won 4-1 against Rich Allen and with a further 4-1 win in the ninth from Lee Miller over Matthew Green the win was guaranteed for the hosts. The tenth game went to the visitors when Lee Smith beat Martin Tonks 4-2 but that was to be their last win as Warwickshire’s Dave Hill won 4-1 against Christian Stevenson and team-mate Karl Reynolds secured a 9-3 victory when he had a straight 4-0 win over Trevor Carlill.
The ladies ‘A’ were in top form flying into a winning 5-0 lead. Natalie Gilbert got the ball rolling winning 3-2 after trailing 1-0 and 2-1 to Jess Shakesby. Kirsty Hinchliffe doubled the hosts lead with a straight 3-0 win over Kim Fuller. Donna Pinch was pegged back to level terms twice but went on to win 3-2 against Michelle Britton before the home side found their lady of the match in the form of Hannah Meek who had a super 23.11 average in her 3-1 win over Christine Readhead, Hannah completing her win with a tremendous 155 game shot in the final fifteen darts leg. Taking the score along to 5-0 was Marian Conway who accounted for Mel Spicer with a 3-2 result after Spicer had gone 2-0 up. Humberside got their one and only winner in the final game when Sam Lewis after going 2-0 down to Courtney Hine, came back to win 3-2 to give a final 5-1 result to Warwickshire.
First on for the men’s ‘A’ was Noel Grant who put the home team one up with his tidy 4-0 win over Neil Dobson, but the lead was short-lived as Reece Robinson won 4-3 against Matty Washbrooke and Mike Atkinson beat Wayne Mynard 4-1. The remainder of the first half belonged to Warwickshire as Jack Wareing won 4-1 against Daryn Gray, Kevin Dowling beat Karl Corcoran 4-2 and Jamie Hughes won 4-1 against Lee Parish to give the hosts a 4-2 lead.
The second session began in style with Jamie Atkins wining 4-0 against Mark Howard, Atkins chalking up a tremendous 33.97 average in which he recorded winning legs of 14,14,14 and 17 darts, a superb performance. Gareth Braham assured Warwickshire of a share of the spoils when he won 4-1 against Martyn Turner and although Gavin Lewis added Humberside’s third winner in the ninth when he won 4-1 against Nigel Heydon the win was guaranteed in the tenth with a 4-2 success for Samuel Whittaker who beat Shaun Rutter 4-2.Taking the score nicely along to 9-3 was Jenson Walker with his 4-2 win over Dave Ladley before the visitors got their fourth winner in the final game when Tommy Lishman had a 4-0 win over Steve Hine to give a result of 8-4 to the hosts.
The overall score for the weekend was a convincing 25-11 result to Warwickshire which saw them move up one place in the division to third with 173 points just ten short of second placed Yorkshire.

Life in the Andy Wheeler Fisheries Championship Division of the UKDA National League is getting no easier for West Midlands as in their latest fixture they took on London who are riding high and second in the division,
The ladies ‘B’ side opened up a 2-0 lead when Shellbie Simmons won 3-2 against Emma Smith and Gemma Barret with her lady of the match 3-1 win over Carly Townsend won 3-1 with a 19.59 average. Unfortunately that was to be the only two wins the home team would get as Kelly Livett won 3-2 against Kelly Doleman, Lauren Burgess beat Debbie Davies 3-0, Tammy MacKenzie made it 3-2 to London with her 3-2 win over Julie Emery and Emma Little rounded off a 4-2 victory for London when she won the final game against Crysta Wilcox 3-0.
The men’s ‘B’ team began with a straight 4-0 win for Karl Hughes over Danny Brown and although the game was levelled when Harry Kelly beat Luke Griffiths 4-2, West Midlands went ahead again in the third with a 4-1 win from Scott Baker over Dean Buckland which earned Baker the man of the match award for his 30.72 average. It was level-pegging once again in the fourth when Geoff Mortimer beat Paul Price 4-2. Nevertheless at the midway point the hosts had opened up a 4-2 lead as Glen McGrandle added his 4-1 win over Gene Hill and Kieran O’Mahoney won 4-2 against Clive Barden.
The start of the second half quickly saw West Midlands lead erased as Liam Hill beat Alex Simmons 4-1 and Bhav Patel won 4-0 against Craig Capewell. The hosts then moved into a guaranteed draw position as Ryan Locker and Mark Craddock in turn won 4-3 against Charlie Little and Tom Riding giving their team a 6-4 lead. Despite the win being within reach and only one more win away it was not to be as the last two games both finished with 4-1 scorelines going to London’s John Walters and Shane O’Connor who accounted for respective opponents Chris Stanley and Ian Stanton to give a final 6-6 result.
Going into Sunday’s games the running score was 10-8 to the visitors, the ladies ‘A’ result extending London’s lead from two games to eight as they stormed to a 6-0 whitewash of their hosts. Felicia Blay began the rout with her 3-0 win over Jacqueline Trott, Joanne Deamer made it 2-0 when she won 3-1 against Jodie Rowlands and with further wins from Mandy Solomons, Lauren Bloomfield, Nikki Patten and Debs Watling who in turn defeated Claire Hobbs (3-2), Jacqueline Simmons (3-1), Jacqueline Maiden 93-2) and Tara Simmons-Fullwood (3-0) the result was 6-0.
The first half of the men’s ‘A’ game was shared with three wins for both teams but it could have been much better for the home side as the three games they lost were all by close 4-3 margins. Jack Aldridge put them one up when he won 4-3 against Graham Rackstraw, only to see David Wawrzewski beat Neil Pointon 4-3 to level the game. A 4-1 win for Dean Simmons-Fullwood against Craig Watkins restored West Midlands lead and giving them a 3-1 advantage was man of the match Shaun Carroll whose similar 4-1 win over Nigel Fisher gave him a super 31.97 average. The last two games of the half were 4-3 results in favour of London with Lee Cocks and Jamie Tilley in turn defeating Rob Thompson and Gavin Baker.
London took the early lead in the second half with Matt Wood winning 4-1 against Ian Jones, but it was all-square again in the eighth as Richard Platt won by the same 4-1 margin against Tommy Sanwell. For a second time in the half the away side took the lead, this time thanks to Nick Cocks who won 4-2 against Ryan O’Connor. With the score now at 5-4 to London the last three games all went to West Midlands, Darren Williams and Ben Johnson in turn beating Wayne Brown and John Walters 4-3 and then rounding off a 7-5 win for the West Midlands men’s ‘A’ was Kevin Bambrick with his 4-1 win over Michael Barnard
The overall score for the weekend was a 21-15 win for London and although Oxfordshire lost 24-12 away to Cheshire they played their rearranged home fixture with Hertfordshire and despite losing that 20-16 it was enough to see them move over West Midlands in the table with 140 points, four more than the Midlanders who have now dropped into the bottom three with next to bottom Derbyshire just three points behind them with a game in hand.
---------------------------------
One-time leaders of the L-Style Division One Black Country have recently fell down to the table to sixth position and were hoping for a win away against Buckinghamshire, who were two places below them, would lift them back up the table and Saturday’s games looked as though that would be the case.
The ladies ‘B’ got off to a winning start when Stella Sims won 3-2 against Lesley Gibbs and with a 3-1 win for Grace Angell over Janet Weedon the visitors were 2-0 up. Alexandra Dorney reduced the arrears for Buckinghamshire with her 3-0 success over Heather Wright only to see Black Country’s 2-0 buffer restored in the fourth when their lady of the match Doreen Hunt beat Lisa Webb 3-1 with an 18.65 average. The result was taken to the final encounter when in the penultimate game Courtney Amos beat Lacey Hughes 3-1 but the 4-2 win was achieved for the Black Country when their Paige Robbins won the final game against Gerry Johnson 3-1
Both of the opening two games in the men’s ‘B’ match went to the wire with the 3-2 result in both cases going to Black Country’s Al Smith and Mark Jones at the expense of Jack Arnold and Stuart Robinson. Taking the away team’s lead to 3-0 was John Green who won 3-0 against Chris Freshwater before the hosts got their first stripe on the board with a similar 3-0 win for Liam Maughan over Connor Whitehouse. Reducing the arrears even further was Steve McLeod with his 3-1 success against Ryan Green but by the halfway mark Black Country were 4-2 up with a further 3-0 win from Ian Townsend over Nigel Beaveen.
Keeping the home team in the match was Steve Vaughan with his 3-1 win over Gavin Smith but from a Black Country lead of 4-3 the score was taken to 8-3 with four wins in a row from Sam Bissell, Rich Bowen, Ali Hickinbottom and Wayne Hobday who had respective wins over John Tarbox (3-1), Mark Boardman (3-2), Eddie Ford (3-0) and Leo Beechey (3-2). Rich Bowen was man of the match his win over Mark Boardman seeing him average 28.93. The final score was 8-4 to Black Country as Terry Beaton (Buckinghamshire) won the last game against Mark Rollinson 3-1.
As with the ladies ‘B’ the ladies ‘A’ also won 4-2 and that was after going 1-0 down when the hosts Kirsty Gibbs won 3-1 against Maxine Prosser. Amy-Leigh Tolley and Chex Allcock in turn had 3-1 and 3-2 wins over their respective opponents Ann Wakefield and Hannah Kirby to turn the game around and put Black Country 2-1 up. Dawn Seaman levelled the match when she won 3-1 against Sarah-Jane Parker only to see the away team forge ahead again in the fifth with a 3-1 win from Grace Angell. With the outcome now resting on the final encounter Black Country could not on the day have wished for a better last-ender as Tammy Chance produced a lady of the match performance to win 3-1 against Suzanne Smith, average 21.19 and give the visitors a 4-2 victory.
Just three winners were now required from the men’s ‘A’ for an overall win for the weekend and those three wins came in the opening five games. However it was the hosts who got the better start as Martin Hill beat Alex Howells 3-0 and although Reece Colley wiped out the home team’s lead when he won 4-3 against Glen Young it was Buckinghamshire who went 2-1 up when John Ayris won 4-2 against Tom Bissell. For a second time the home side surrendered their lead, this time it was down to Aaron Colley’s 4-2 win over George Grinsted and with Jamie Barrowman putting on a man of the match display in his 4-1 win and 27.92 average against Clive Wilford the all-important third win was achieved together with an overall win for the weekend. Taking Black Country into a 4-2 lead at the midway point was Cayden Smith with his 4-2 victory over Mat Caste.
As early as the second game of the second session the score was level at 4-4 as Damien Fyffe beat Steve Jones 4-2 and Carl Webb won 4-3 against Dan Homer. Trevor Brennan restored the away side’s lead when he beat Karl Deacon 4-3 but the last three games of the weekend went to Buckinghamshire as John Woodbridge beat George Willetts 4-1, James Hurrell won 4-0 against Jamie Rollinson and with another 4-0 win Cameron Menzies over Paul Wells Buckinghamshire men’s ‘A’ had a 7-5 win.
The overall result for the weekend’s fixture was a 21-15 victory for Black Country, but despite the win they remain sixth in the division but they are now only nine points short of second placed Gwent and so still all to play for.
---------------------------------
In their penultimate fixture in division two of the UKDA National League Salopian had a home tie with Wiltshire. Prior to the game Salopian were placed fourth in the division with 144 points, their opponents third on 149 points and with just five points the difference between the two team a close result was possibly on the cards.
The weekend didn’t get off to the best of starts for the ladies ‘B’ as Sue Lane, with a 3-0 result defeated Hayley McGuinness 3-0 to put Wiltshire one up. Lane’s win was quickly wiped out as the home side’s lady of the match Kate Titley chalked up a similar 3-0 result in her game with Elaine Kearns and averaged 19.52. From 1-0 down the home team then went 2-1 up as Danni Pritchard beat Julie Newman 3-1 but that was to be Salopian’s last winner as Wiltshire went on to win the game 4-2 with further wins from Erica Hartnett, April Polden and Cat Mackie who in turn accounted for Tammy Walmsley (3-2), Sue Lane (3-1) and Emma Callaghan 3-0).
The men’s ‘B’ opened up a 2-0 lead when Neil Boxall won the opener against Jayden Betteridge 3-2 and Andy Gilbert won 3-1 against Keith Bedding but the two wins were cancelled out when Wiltshire’s Kevin Barefoot won 3-1 against James Mansell and restoring parity was Andy Harvey who won 3-0 against Scott Towers. Matt Elsey restored Salopian’s lead when in the fifth game he beat Michael Crumpton 3-2 but by the midway point of the match it was all-square once again as Lee Newman (Wiltshire) won 3-2 against Scott Dockerty.
For the first time in the game Wiltshire went ahead as the second half got underway, Cameron Lee winning 3-0 against Eddie Price. The score was levelled once again in the eighth when Andy Evans added his 3-1 win over Peter Keen to the home team’s score before they went ahead once again, this time thanks to a man of the match performance from Shaun Pryce who averaged 26.69 in his 3-1 win over Dan Sturgess. From 5-4 up the last three games all went to the hosts the trio of wins beginning with a 3-1 win from Jon Mansell over Kalam Titcombe and there were then two consecutive 3-0 victories from Ian Evans and Kacey Jones over their respective opponents Harry Osborn and Martin Williams to give the home side’s men’s ‘B’ an 8- 4 win and for the day a lead of 10-8.
Unfortunately the ladies ‘A’ suffered the same fate as their ‘B’ side finishing on the wrong side of a 4-2 result and that was after taking a 2-0 lead when Tracey Dean opened up with her 3-0 win over Kacey-Jayde Witcher and lady of the match Evonne Taylor won 3-1 against Jill little with a fine 20.41 average. The last four games all went to Wiltshire as Tina Rowlands beat Julie Griffiths 3-0, Joanna Hook and Dani Kearns in turn won 3-2 against Emma Tapp and Steph Clarke and in the final game Kerry Hale defeated Chloe Ames 3-1 to give the visitors the 4-2 result.
The men’s ‘A’ team were in top form storming into a 5-0 lead thanks to wins from Ben Morgan, Paul Rowley, Shaun Pryce, Jamie Kynaston and Steven Ritchie who in turn accounted for Mitchell McCarthy (4-1), Gary Court (4-0), Ashley Chapman (4-2), Ryan Greenway (4-1) and Juan Hopkins (4-0). The last game of the first half went to Wiltshire as Chris Bailey won by a close 4-3 margin over Glyn Thomas.
With five winners in the first half it was more of the same in the second session as Salopian chalked up another five winners. Terry Nash got the ball rolling in game seven with a 4-1 win over Connor Hughes. Nash was followed by three further 4-1 wins as Jon Mansell beat Daniel Humphries, Gary Crowther won against Josh McCarthy and Ben Bevan beat Stuart Clarke. Gary Crowther took the match award with a tremendous 32.22 average over McCarthy. The penultimate encounter of the weekend saw Wiltshire record their second winner when Ashley McKeeve beat Mark Crutchley 4-1 but with the final game going to Ash Hilditch who won 4-0 against Ian Greenway, Salopian men’s ‘A’ won 10-2 and the overall score for the weekend was a terrific 22-14 victory for Salopian.
The win saw Salopian move up the table one place to third on 169 but with only one more fixture to play promotion this season could be out of reach as second in the division Clwyd are on 182 points, thirteen more than Salopian.
---------------------------------
Shropshire could not have wished for a better start to their latest fixture in division three of the UKDA National League away to Pembrokeshire as both of the Saturday ‘B’ games produced big wins.
The ladies romped into a winning 4-0 lead, the quartet of wins started by Gemma Smith when she won 3-0 against Zoe Merchant, Gemma in the process earning herself the team’s match award for her 16.52 average. Following Gemma was Kirstie Millington. Dianne Newton and Lauren Kempson who all handed out 3-0 defeats in turn to Avril Evans, Ffion Davies and Elaine Edwards-Babb to give the away team an unassailable 4-0 lead. The hosts got their first and only winner in the fifth when Sophie Earls won 3-0 against Sandra Beardsmore but the result was taken to 5-1 to Shropshire when Deana Sheldon won 3-1 against Nevita McConalogue in the final game.
The men’s ‘B’ also had a fine start as they strolled into a 3-0 lead when Rob Pierce beat William Evans 3-1, Mitch Pickett won 3-2 against Ben Farr and Brett Cooper had a straight 3-0 win over Carwyn Reed, however from 3-0 up the score at the break was 3-3 as Steve Young, Celt Williams and Paul Emmanuel responded for Pembrokeshire by beating respective opponents Mark Jones (3-0), Rob Pitt (3-1) and Josh Ball (3-0).
The first game of the second half saw the home team take the lead for the first time when Julian Gape won 3-1 against John Simms. From 4-3 down Shropshire then won the remaining five games without dropping a single leg Chalking up the 3-0 whitewashes were Jon Blakemore, Lee Dolman, Adam Thackray, Chris Evans and Anthony Whitehouse who in turn defeated Gareth Earls, Anthony Lewis, Taz Halliday, Alex Cronin and Mikey Rees. Chris Evans was man of the match, his 3-0 win over Alex Cronin seeing him record a 23.86 average.
Although taken to a deciding leg Jenna-Louise Ball won 3-2 against Jess Rees to put Shropshire ladies ‘A’ 1-0 up and doubling that lead was Nicola Ball who won 3-0 against Tracy Hopton. Tina Philips reduced the arrears for the home side when she got the better of Kelly Millington with a 3-1 result. The win however was put out of Pembrokeshire’s reach in the fourth game when Sophie Ward accounted for Rhian Evans with a 3-0 result, Sophie earning herself the team’s match award for her fine 21.47 average Putting up the all-important fourth win was Marie Riggs who had a 3-1 win over Tracey Hawkins-Greene, the final score taken to 4-2 to Shropshire when in the last game Pembrokeshire’s Angharad Bessant won 3-0 against Michele Pritchard.
Andy Vellender was first on for the men’s ‘A’ team, he gave the away side the early lead when he beat Declan Coles 4-3. Kelvin O’Keefe levelled the game when he won 4-1 against Simon Pritchard before the hosts then went ahead with a further win from Steve Smith, 4-3 against Phil Clarke. A 25.44 average and a 4-2 win over Giles Hilton not only levelled the game for Shropshire but also produced their man of the match in the form of Fox. Shropshire then went ahead for a second time, this time thanks to the 4-1 success for Reece Cook-Lucas against John Phillips. Going into the midway break the score was levelled once again as Daniel Castle added his 4-1 win over Paul Harrison to Pembrokeshire’s tally.
As the second half kicked off the opening four games all went with the first throw advantage, Shropshire were first to strike as Kevin Harris beat Joseph Lewis 4-3. Llew Bevan had a 4-0 win over Andre Knox to take the score to 4-4 only to see the away team forge ahead again when Sam Aitkens defeated Aled Davies 4-1. Taking the running score to 5-5 was Marshal James (Pembrokeshire) with a 4-1 win over Steven Lynch before the sequence was broken when Louis Melville added his 4-0 win to the hosts account to put them 6-5 up and in with a chance of victory. The very last game of the weekend went to the wire with Richard Parker getting the 4-3 result over Steve Castle to put the final score all-square at 6-6.
The overall result for the weekend was 23-13 to Shropshire, however despite the convincing victory Shropshire dropped one place in the table to seventh with Bedfordshire overtaking them, their 24-12 win at Montgomery and Radnor giving them a total of 158 points just one more than Shropshire.
