Alan Towe - A West Midlands Round Up

This coming weekend Warwickshire County Darts Organisation will be making the long trek to the south-west where at the Mount Charles Social Club, Clifden Road, St Austell, Cornwall, PL25 4NX they will take on Cornwall in the fourth of their Elite Premier Division fixtures in the UKDA National League.

Warwickshire, currently in second place in the divisional table, and only four points adrift of leaders Lancashire will play against a Cornwall team who are five places and 23 points behind them.

In the AON Championship Division West Midlands with just one win from their opening three games will be looking to return to winning ways after suffering a 21-15 defeat away to Dorset in their last fixture.

In their fourth game this coming weekend West Midlands will play hosts to Buckinghamshire who with 52 points are one place above them and four points to the good, so a win for both teams at this point would see them move a little further away from the relegation zone.

Newcomers to county games Black Country have made a perfect start to their inaugural season having won all three of their opening fixtures in the Windows for Darts Division Three. Their forthcoming fixture at the weekend will see them travel to take on Wirral who are six places below them in the table and a massive 45 short of their lofty opponents who hold a five points advantage over their nearest rivals, second placed Gloucestershire.

Division one of the Four Oaks and District League witnessed a terrific comeback as leaders Boldmere St Mikes fought back from 4-1 down at the Red Lion to win 5-4 making it six straight wins to keep them two points ahead of second placed Erdington Arrows who after opening up a 5-1 lead as hosts to Golden Hind, in the end had to be satisfied with a rather close 5-4 victory, this being Hind’s fourth consecutive 5-4 defeat.

In the second division Bishop Vesey and Heartlands both had comfortable wins as Vesey beat St Thomas Arrows 6-3 to stay top of the division just ahead of Heartlands on average despite Heartlands winning 7-2 against Erdington Flyers.

Plough and Arrows 5-4 win at Bills Arrows saw them move into third place on eight points, two short of the two teams above them.

A.Kimberley (Golden Hind) and S.Cain (Heartlands) hit their second 180 of the season with I.Matthews (Red Lion), A.Cooksey (Walmley CSC Fights), C.Millward jnr and M.Mcfall (Boldmere St Mikes) recording their first.

With no result in for Dunky’s Boys versus Mackadown Social in the premier division of the Sheldon and District Winter League Dunky’s forfeit their number spot and drop to four with Langley Arrows moving up one place to replace them in pole position after their 7-2 home win over bottom of the division Hobs Meadow, Daniel White and Simon Edwards hitting a 180 for Langley while their team mate Richard Nixon recorded a ten darts game.

Sheldon Marlborough Flights are the only other team besides Langley Arrows to have won all three games in the premier, their latest being a 6-3 success over Iron Horse Flights to keep them in second place, Tom White hit a maximum for Sheldon.

In division one, the top four teams are all undefeated, an 8-1 win at Maggies puts Kingshurst Labour Club top of the division on average from Sheldon Dukes who won 6-3 at Irish Centre. Third and fourth placed Hollywood Social and Yardley Ex Colts played each other but with no result in they are both on four points from two games.

A 7-2 home win over Raven keeps Langley Flights 100% win record intact in division two and also keeps them top of the pile on average from second placed Journeys End who won 6-3 against Lyndon Old Boys.

The Shirley and District Monday Night League staged their Singles Knockout in which there were 2-0 wins in the quarter finals for James Hinkley, Simon Edwards and Rob Downer over respective opponents Jeff Harper, Josh Aplin and Tom McCabe. Baz Williams won 2-1 against Luke Sahota.

The last four games both went to the wire with Downer and Edwards in turn getting the verdict against Williams and Hinkley. The final also went the full distance with Simon Edwards just getting the edge on Rob Downer.

Top individual performances came from James Hinkley (2x180), Sam Hicks (180,113f,15 darts game), Josh Aplin (180,146f) and Matt McCallion (180).

Aston Inn Nomads made it ten consecutive wins in the Camp Hill League with a somewhat close 4-3 success in their home tie with Tyseley Newbies who are in the bottom half of the league. Nevertheless the win keeps the Nomads four points clear at the top of the table with a game in hand on their nearest rivals Sheldon Marlborough Flights who had a 5-2 win at Peaky Blinder.

Copper Fox suffered their first defeat in seven games in the Kings Norton League when they lost 4-3 at Thurlestone who are two points behind them and fourth in the league. A 6-1 win at Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club has put second placed Rubery Legion on the same 12 points as the leaders they trail by just six legs of average.

Third in the table E57 are only two points behind the top duo with a game in hand.

The Stourbridge and District Wednesday Night League played the Preliminary Round of their League Cup there were just two games which saw Ten Arches ‘B’ win 6-1 against Glasscutters ‘B’ and Bird in Hand ‘E’ win 5-2 against Ashwood.

One rearranged league fixture was played, Ten Arches ‘A’ losing their home game with White Horse 5-2.

Townsend Social Club lost their second position in the Netherton Thursday Night League when they lost their home fixture with Old Hill Cricket Club 6-3. The result sees Townsend drop to fourth while Old Hill move up two places to third.

Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club’s 7-2 home win over Bulls Head has seen them open up a huge nine points lead over the chasing four teams Fairfield, Old Hill Cricket Club, Townsend Social Club and Bulls Head who are all on 18 points.

Fairfield won 6-3 at home against Spring Meadow Social Club.

Little change in the Hilltop Friendly Tuesday Night League as game number ten saw the top half teams play and win against the bottom half teams. The Vine continue to lead the field with a two legs of average advantage over Dewdrop after they won 6-1 against Horseley Tavern and Dewdrop won 5-2 at Hayes Social, both teams are on 20 points, two more than third placed Waggon and Horses who were 6-1 winners at Tamebridge.

Leaders of the Stourbridge and District Monday Night League Glasscutters ‘A’ handed their hosts, Lion, Stourbridge their first defeat in four games when they won 6-1.

Quarry Bank Liberal Club are now the only unbeaten team in the league, they are currently placed third, two points behind Glasscutters ‘A’ and second in the table Gate Hangs Well, but they do have two games in hand. Gate Hangs Well are on ten points and only trail Glasscutters on average after their 4-3 home win over Bird in Hand.

Congratulations to Andy Vellender who has become the very first player in the Stourbridge based Ashwood Premier League to record a perfect nine darts game of 501.

Playing against Danny Williams, Andy hit two consecutive 180’s and then checked out on 141 hitting treble twenty, treble nineteen and double twelve, a fantastic performance.

Railway Tavern kept their title hopes alive in the Black Country Super League by handing their hosts High Acres ‘B’ a 5-0 whitewash. The win puts Railway three points ahead of second in the table Yeltz Bar ‘A’ who had a close 3-2 success playing at home against fifth placed Allens Bar ‘A’.

Despite winning 5-0 against Horse and Jockey, third in the league Allens Bar ‘C’ are ten points off the top of the table.

Games in the Gilbert’s Bar Monday Night League this week saw Jamie Webb move up the table from fifth to third following his 5-3 win over Jamie Aplin and Luke Wildman’s convincing 7-1 victory over Arthur Lubkowski taking up one place from seventh to sixth.

Ben Johnson continues to lead the field with 195 points from 25 games with second placed Steve Jones hot on his heels having played two games fewer than he and only three points adrift.
