The South Birmingham League have been engaged with their Doubles Knockout which attracted an encouraging 34 pairs all doing battle for the title, but it was the pairing of Neil Parsonage and Martin Heaven who won the day taking the honours with a final 2-1 success over Jake Liggins and Mike McFall. Will Naylor continues to dominate the Erdington Red Lion Double Top League week nineteen seeing him win 3-0 against Lee Austin and 2-1 against fourth in the table Lewis Bayliss to put him on 90 points from 36 games. Second in the table Dean Bayliss had a somewhat shaky start to the night losing 3-0 to Lewis Bayliss but then recovering to win 3-0 against Matthew Cain to leave him eight points off the top on 82 points. John Frost had a 2-1 win over Steve Cain then lost by the same margin to Clive Austin but holds on to third place on 74 points, Lewis Bayliss is just one point behind him. The Shirley and District Monday Night League have completed two thirds of their season and week twenty saw Highwood lose their number one spot after going down 5-4 at home against Dunky’s Boys in what was a very close game. Both Highwood and Dunky’s are now level on 36 points with Highwood having two legs of average more than their rivals. Taking over in pole position is Red Lion, their 8-1 win at Saracens Jesters giving them the same 36 points as Highwood and Dunky’s but they are just one leg to the good on average over Highwood. With just one fixture remaining a 6-3 win for Royal Sutton Flights over third placed Golden Hind has made them favourites to take the division one title in the Four Oaks and District League as they are two points ahead of The Boat with a superior average. For The Boat to retain the title they have held for three years in their final fixture which is against Royal Sutton they have to win big to take the top prize. In the second division Red Lion’s 7-2 loss at The Fox leaves them top but they have completed their fixtures and second placed Pint Pot Flights are on the same 16 points with a final game against Plough and Arrows who are in the bottom half of the table. Third in the table Bishop Vesey are not out of the race as they only trail by two points and are still in with an outside chance of taking the title. Boldmere Tap and The Oscott Social are both on 20 points at the top the third division. The Oscott Social had a close 5-4 win over Sutton Sports and Social Club while Boldmere Tap had a convincing 8-1 win away to Lad in the Lane and remain favourites to win the division. As week eight got underway in the Shirley Premier League leader Tom Bent was absent and so fiercely contested is the league title that he dropped six places to seventh in the table. The new leader is Paul Higgins who took his points tally to 47 from 17 games when he added a 3-1 win over Steve Heeks and a 2-2 draw with Andy Thomas before rounding off his night with a 4-0 success against Jack Nason. It was not lucky seven for Above Average in the Winmau Centre Monday Night League as in week seven they lost 25-23 to league leaders Misfits, this being Average’s first defeat of the campaign and puts them on 215 points in third place behind The Untouchables who had a massive 43-5 win against Unleashed Warrior to give them 237 points fourteen short of Misfits. With Journeys End Lions having a bye in the Camp Hill League second placed Holy Souls took the opportunity to reduce the arrears on the leaders with a 5-2 home win over Station Wagon, however they still remain four points behind Journeys. Cotterills Lane Club beat Tyseley WMC 4-3 to move above them in the table and take over fourth place with their hosts replacing them in fifth position. Studley Cricket Club despite having already won the Henley and District League title with still one more game to play added a 7-2 win to their account giving them a perfect score of 26 points from the thirteen games they have played. Wharf Swifts with a 6-3 win at Studley Conservative Club hold on to second place with 20 points and Dorridge, after their 6-3 win against Village Inn move up into third spot to take over from the Conservative Club who drop to fourth on 16 points to fewer than Dorridge. Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’ took their unbeaten run in the Brierley Hill Monday Night League to seven games with a 6-3 home win over Fox and Grapes to keep them two points ahead of Bulls Head (Netherton), Mount Pleasant and Dudley Sports ‘A’ who in turn defeated Portway (6-3), Delph Bell (5-4) and Rose and Crown (5-4). It was a good week for Lamp Tavern who registered their first win in seven games when they beat Dudley Sports ‘B’ 5-4. After eighteen games have been played in the Sedgley and Gornal Tuesday Night League only two points separate the top three teams. Old Bulls Head lead the field, their latest win being 8-1 at Fellows Club to put them on 32 points, Parkes Hall are on the same 32 points trailing only on average following a 6-3 home win over Netherton Cricket Club. The last fixtures played in the Netherton Thursday Night League all finished with the same 7-2 scoreline, something you may think unique, not so as in match four every result was the same again, this time 5-4, however it was not a happy 5-4 for leaders Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club as they actually lost 5-4 at White Horse, their first defeat of the season so far. Nevertheless the Ex Serviceman’s Club remain in pole position but now have to share it with their victors who are level on points and average. Also on the same nine points as the leading pair are Riddins Tavern and Bulls Head. There were wins for the top four teams in the Hilltop Friendly Tuesday Night League in week eight Tipton Sports making it eight wins from as many games when they won 4-3 at The Vine to stay two points clear of second placed Waggon and Horses who had a 6-1 over New Talbot. Third placed Island Inn won 6-1 at Dewdrop ‘B’ while fourth in the table Dewdrop ‘A’ had a closer 4-3 success at Hayes Social. Island Inn and Dewdrop ‘A’ are both on 12 points, four off the top. The Cradley Tuesday Night League are up to week five and from a starting line-up of eleven teams only two remain unbeaten. Brickmakers Arms lead the way with a perfect score of ten points from their five games the latest of which was a 6-3 home win over Chop House. Second in the table Hawne Lane Tavern had a similar 6-3 win at Gate Hangs Well but they have only played and won four games so far, Gate Hangs Well drop from third to sixth following their defeat. The Brierley Hill Friday Night League played off the second leg of their League Cup and winning through were league runners up Netherton Cricket Club ‘A’ with an overall 9-3 win over Netherton Cricket Club ‘B’ and league champions Brickmakers Arms ‘A’ who accounted for their ‘B’ side with a 9-5 scoreline. The final should be a really close fought game between the league’s top two teams. Due to Woodside having a bye in the Silver End Sunday Morning League they have lost top spot in the table and dropped to third. Victoria kicked off the new season in the division one singles league of the Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League by handing out a 7-0 whitewash to their visitors Dog and Partridge ‘A’ and close behind them with a 6-1 win over Railway is the Bull. The Royal share pole position in division two with Wednesfield Legion, in turn they recorded 5-2 wins over Pendulum and Duke of York.
