A West Midlands Round Up By Alan Towe

Studley Cricket Club rounded off their season in the Henley and District League with a 6-3 home win over Wythall Legion to make it fourteen wins in as many games to win the league title with a perfect score of 28 points six more than runners up Wharf Swifts who completed their campaign with a 5-4 win over Studley Conservative Club. The Cricket Club made it a fabulous double when with a 7-2 result over Wootton Bears they lifted the League Cup winner’s trophy. The Consolation Cup final saw Studley Conservative Club beat Dorridge, again the scoreline was 7-2. The league will be holding their delegates meeting at Wootton Wawen Social Club, Alcester Road, Wootton Wawen, B95 7AY on Monday 16th April at 8.30pm, anyone interested in entering a team for the forthcoming season should attend this meeting, old and new teams are cordially invited to attend. The Four Oaks and District League staged their K & B Installations sponsored Derek Masters Singles Knockout at the Red Lion, Station Road, Erdington. Forty two players battled it out for the title currently held by R.Hawker (Royal Sutton Flights). Three players from the league champions (Royal Sutton Flights) and one from the first division runners up (The Boat) made it to the quarter finals but at the end of the round all three Royal Sutton Flights players were eliminated including reigning champion Hawker who was beaten by S.Holmes (Bishop Vesey) 2-1. K.Deeley from The Boat was the only first division player to make the semi-finals, he then booked his final place with a 2-0 win against Red Lion’s B.Hughes. The other finalist S.Holmes defeated I.Lloyd (St Thomas’s Social Club) 2-0. K.Deeley went on to beat S.Holmes 3-0 in the final to become the league’s new singles champion. R.Hawker recorded an 8 darts game and his fourth 180 of the season, with N.Sammons (Bishop Vesey) registering a 9 darts game. Paul Higgins is back at the top of the Shirley Premier League table, he began the night finishing all square at 2-2 with Dave Fisher but then added a straight 4-0 win over Chris Thomas snr to his tally. Fourth in the table Dave Heighway was another player to hold Higgins to 2-2 before he rounded off the night with a 3-1 win against Chris Devlin to put him on 58 points from 21 games. Sean Talbot moves up to second, some five points short of Higgins after four 3-1 wins over Steve Devlin, Nick Walker, Antony Daly and Mark Henderson, while Mark Gwalchmai drops one place to third on the same 53 points as Talbot following his 3-1 defeat by Phil Thomas and being held to 2-2 by Jack Nason. Dave Heighway is one more point adrift of Talbot and Gwalchami on 52 while fifth in the table Tom Bent despite trailing leader Higgins by eight points has three games in hand which could net him a possible twelve points. Player of the night was Jordan Ottley with a top class 141 finish which earned him £10 as the highest break was not won. It was League Cup semi-final week in the Small Heath League with league leaders East Birmingham Allotment Holders Association beating Cob’s bar 8-1with C.Wyatt hitting a maximum for the winners. Second in the league table Heartlands Club were not far behind E.B.A.H.A. with their 7-2 success against Sheldon Marlborough Arrows. Four results from division one of the South Birmingham League but only two actually played as Banbury Arrows and Erdington Members Club both had walkovers over respective opponents The Trident and Mackadown Social as they didn’t turn up. In the two games played Crown at Shard End won 5-4 at The Raven to keep within six points and a game in hand on leaders Erdington Members Club and Coleshill Social won their home tie with Punchbowl 7-2. In division two Iron Horse maintained their push for the title with an 8-1 win over The Kingfisher, while second placed C’s Arrows, who are just two points behind the leaders had a more modest 5-4 win against Chelmsley Conservative Club. Misfits have had their lead at the top of the Winmau Centre Monday Night League cut from 35 points to 23 despite winning 35-13 against Full Monty as their nearest rivals The Untouchables chalked up a massive 47-1 victory over Make Mine A Double. Third in the table Above Average are 18 points adrift of Untouchables, they also won 47-1 against bottom of the table Three Men And A Lady who are the only team in the league without a win after the opening nine games of the season. Journeys End completed their programme and drew level on 18 games played with their local rivals and Forest of Arden Winter League leaders Journeys End Flights with an 8-1 win over C’s but still finished two points behind Flights who won the title, Journeys End finishing as runners up. Week fifteen in the Camp Hill League brought together the league’s bottom two teams Station Wagon and Wagon and Horses. The outcome of the game was a close 4-3 win for Wagon and Horses to see them move up one place in the table overtaking Devil’s Club who lost their home tie with Tyseley WMB 7-0. Station Wagon remain rooted at the foot of the table two points behind Devil’s Club. Leaders Journeys End Lions kept up their four points lead over second placed Holy Souls with a 4-3 win at Emerald, Holy Souls winning by the same margin at Cotterills Lane Club. Both of the top two teams in the Kings Norton League West Heath and Rubery RBL won 5-2 in week 15, West Heath with a win over Man on the Moon stay top on average, while Rubery, who have a game in hand on the leaders beat Grant Arms, both teams are on 26 points Third in the table Avenue Social are on 24 points just two short of the leading duo, they won 4-3 against Bournbrook whose T.Jeffs hit a maximum. Surprisingly after playing 22 games just one leg of average is the difference between Highwood and Dunky’s Boys at the top of the Shirley and District Monday Night League. Highwood had a vital 6-3 home win over third in the table Red Lion however it was not enough to stop their lead being reduced as second in the table Dunky’s Boys won 7-2 at The Lodge. With the leading pair on 40 points Red Lion are now two behind them with 38 but still four ahead of fourth and fifth placed Drawbridge Bears and Cider House. Will Naylor began week 21 of the Erdington Red Lion Double Top League with a 3-0 win over Ryan Barritt but then for only the fourth time in forty games lost 2-1 to third in the table John Frost. Second placed Dean Bayliss also won his opener 3-0 against Micky Wilde then followed that with a 2-1 success over Steve Cain to reduce Naylor’s lead which is still a considerable 12 points. John Frost remains in third place, he and fourth placed Lewis Bayliss are both eight points behind Dean Bayliss. Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’ made it nine unbeaten games in the Brierley Hill Monday Night League when they won their home tie with Bull and Bladder 8-1, the losers dropping two places to sixth. Bulls Head are second in the table keeping within two points of the leaders with a crucial 6-3 win over Dudley Sports ‘A’ who drop from third to fourth just one leg of average behind third placed Mount Pleasant who won 7-2 against Rose and Crown. The Brierley Hill Friday Night League staged the finals of their Singles Knockout and taking the title with a final 3-2 win over Brickmakers Arms ‘A’ representative R.Powers was J.Churchill from Netherton Cricket Club ‘A. Both of the semi-finals finished with a 2-1 scoreline Churchill beating S.Skidmore (Netherton Cricket Club ‘A’) and Powers wining against G.Jackson (Brickmakers Arms ‘B’). It was the first leg of the semi-finals week in the Netherton Thursday Night League. In the League Cup league leaders Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club won 6-3 away to White Horse while Townsend had a closer 5-4 win at home over Bulls Head. Delph Bell had what appears to be a comfortable 7-2 win over The Crown in the Shadow Cup, Riddins Tavern just edging Fairfield with a 5-4 result. With two thirds of the season completed in the Sedgley and Gornal Tuesday Night League leaders Parkes Hall have a slender two points advantage over second placed Old Bulls Head. The latest round of fixtures saw Parkes Hall win 7-2 at home against Pensnett Liberal Club and Old Bulls Head 6-3 at Five Ways. Gornal Labour Club and Ashwood are placed third and fourth respectively in the table, both on 32 points, four off the top with just one leg of average separating them, both teams won 6-3 the Labour Club against Netherton Cricket Club and Ashwood accounting for fifth placed Coseley Tavern. Tipton Sports, leaders of the Hilltop Friendly Tuesday Night League were the only losers in the top four teams in week ten. Playing away to third in the table Waggon and Horses Tipton Sports lost 4-3, their first defeat in the ten games season so far, but despite the defeat they hang on to pole position with 18 points but are now closely followed by Island Inn, Waggon and Horses and Dewdrop ‘A’ who are all on 16 points. After losing 4-1 to Matt Moore in League One of the Yeltz Bar Tuesday Night Singles League Jordan Ward has dropped to third place with Duane Hart and Matt Moore replacing him in the top spot, Hart beating Mark Adams 4-1 to put him level on points and average with Moore. A 4-1 win over Lee Eaves keeps Rob Smith top of League Two and in League Three, although he didn’t play Trevor Collier remains in the number one position but only on average with a game in hand as John Beattie and Richard Hill have the same 32 points.
