The Four Oaks and District League staged their K & B Installations sponsored Derek Masters Singles Knockout at the Red Lion, Station Road, Erdington. Forty two players battled it out for the title currently held by R.Hawker (Royal Sutton Flights). Three players from the league champions (Royal Sutton Flights) and one from the first division runners up (The Boat) made it to the quarter finals but at the end of the round all three Royal Sutton Flights players were eliminated including reigning champion Hawker who was beaten by S.Holmes (Bishop Vesey) 2-1. K.Deeley from The Boat was the only first division player to make the semi-finals, he then booked his final place with a 2-0 win against Red Lion’s B.Hughes. The other finalist S.Holmes defeated I.Lloyd (St Thomas’s Social Club) 2-0. K.Deeley went on to beat S.Holmes 3-0 in the final to become the league’s new singles champion. R.Hawker recorded an 8 darts game and his fourth 180 of the season, with N.Sammons (Bishop Vesey) registering a 9 darts game. Paul Higgins is back at the top of the Shirley Premier League table, he began the night finishing all square at 2-2 with Dave Fisher but then added a straight 4-0 win over Chris Thomas snr to his tally. Fourth in the table Dave Heighway was another player to hold Higgins to 2-2 before he rounded off the night with a 3-1 win against Chris Devlin to put him on 58 points from 21 games. Sean Talbot moves up to second, some five points short of Higgins after four 3-1 wins over Steve Devlin, Nick Walker, Antony Daly and Mark Henderson, while Mark Gwalchmai drops one place to third on the same 53 points as Talbot following his 3-1 defeat by Phil Thomas and being held to 2-2 by Jack Nason. Dave Heighway is one more point adrift of Talbot and Gwalchami on 52 while fifth in the table Tom Bent despite trailing leader Higgins by eight points has three games in hand which could net him a possible twelve points. Player of the night was Jordan Ottley with a top class 141 finish which earned him £10 as the highest break was not won. Four results from division one of the South Birmingham League but only two actually played as Banbury Arrows and Erdington Members Club both had walkovers over respective opponents The Trident and Mackadown Social as they didn’t turn up. The outcome of the game was a close 4-3 win for Wagon and Horses to see them move up one place in the table overtaking Devil’s Club who lost their home tie with Tyseley WMB 7-0. Brickmakers Arms had a bye in the Cradley Tuesday Night League but with an unbeaten ten points stay top of the table.
