A Look Back in Time - Alan Towe 2000-10-25
The Forest of Arden Winter League produced quite a few shocks this week as joint leaders Hobs Meadow Mixes and Mackadown Social both lost their first matches of the campaign. A 5-4 reversal at the Old Bill and Bull was Hobs Meadow Mixes fate while Mackadown lost 6-3 at Hobs Meadow. At the other end of the table the Cock and Hens gained their first points as they won 8-1 at Warwick Aero. Red Arrows poor start continues as they went down 6-3 at home to Stechford Social. Harvester lost 5-4 at Silver Wings with Terry Price notching a 180 for the losers.
The top of the table is now very congested as no fewer than four teams, Hobs Meadow, Hobs Meadow Mixes, Silver Wings and Mackadown Social are all locked together on eight points.

In the premier division of the Harborne and District Winter League a nine darts legs from W.Webb and P.Hewitt helped their teams, Lickey Banker and Hillyfields to 7-2 wins at the Raven ans Stonehouse respectively. J.Cannon (George) scored a maximum in a 5-4 win at Ladywood Social.
The division two game between Hobsons Choice and W.C.WMC, contained two maximums, one for the home teams S.Wenlock and for W.C. M.Lyden. The all important 6-3 result went to the visitors. Highlander suffered a shock 5-4 defeat at Harborne Stores while New Inns had a 6-3 win at home against Stores ‘B’.
Division three’s Stonehouse Ladies gained their first win of the season when they won 5-4 at Highlander Ladies.
On their home board Village Stump defeated Coronation Club 6-3.

Karl Stephens is the new name at the top of the Bass Breweries sponsored Minworth Social Individual League table. Playing against Dave Downes this week Karl hit 180, 2x140,121 and 3x100 in his 3-0 victory to give him a total of 19 points. Also on 19 points is Pat Koyce. Pat opened his week with a similar straight legs 3-0 win over Brian Brooks and he aalso hita maximum plus 115 and 4x100. Pat’s second match saw him beat Tony Randell 2-1. Reigning champion Dave Shorthouse is only one point adrift, keeping up the momentum with a 2-1 success against Gary Mills.
Other players finding the three treble twenties this week were Alan Grainger, Steve Davis, Gordon Clinton and Richie Shenton, who in his game with Barry Stephens hit not one but two 180’s. However, it was not enough to avoid an unbelievable 3-0 defeat.

A final reminder that this coming Friday the Minworth Individual League will be taking on the Warwickshire Youth side at the Minworth Social Club. All proceeds from the match will go to to the Warwickshire Youth team to assist them with their expenses. Why not call in at the club and give the teams a bit of vocal support and in the process help swell the funds for the youngsters.

Custard House, reigning champions of the Small Heath Summer League, began the winter season with a bang beating Black Horse 7-2. Both Sheldon Heath Flights and the Bear also got off to a good start with 6-3 wins over respective oppponents Saltley Flights and Red Hill.
