League wise it was a bad week for Hobs Meadow in the race for the Forest of Arden Winter League title. Playing at the Highwood Hobs returned with a 5-4 defeat, which after a 7-2 win by Red Arrows at the Harvester and a similar result by Hobs Meadow Mixes against Farringdon Social, leaves the reigning champions two points adrift of the two leading teams. Mark Osborne was on form for Mixes as he recorded a 160 break.
In the league’s Divisional Cup Hobs Meadow and Mixes played against each other with the former getting the 8-4 verdict. Old Bill and Bull chalked up a tremendous 11-4 win at Mackadown Social, while the Harvester won 8-7 at home to the Cock and Hens.

A charity match between the Ace of Clubs and Gulp team and the Aston Manor and Hardy Spicer was staged at the Hardy Spicer Club, Erdington. The result was a 9-5 victory for the Ace of Clubs and Gulp. However, the biggest winner was charity and from the match a total of £270 was raised, which together with other monies raised will go to the Princess Diana Children’s Hospital at the end of the year.

The Minworth Social Individual League have completed their season and it is now official Mark Hollyoake, in his first season in the league has won the title. With 126 points from 30 games Mark was seven points ahead of his nearest rival Tony Randell, who in turn had three more points than Peter Allen, a long-time leader in the league this season.
The season finished with something of a surprise as Hollyoake lost his very last fixture against Lance Thompson 2-1, after previously only having lost two. Ending the season with maximums were Derek Fardon, Steve Cain, Alan Mayell, Richie Shenton, Peter Allen (2), Tony Randell (2), Mick Smith and Pat Koyce.

The top two teams in the premier division of the Sheldon and District Winter League, St Annes and Fordbridge Social met this week on the Fordbridge board. In a very tight game the result was not achieved until the very last encounter, when Colin Henn gave St Annes the 5-4 win. For St Annes A.McCrave hit a 180 and A.Richards had an eight darts leg. P.Allen (180) and G.Hunt (160 break) helped Saltley Amateur Gardeners to an 8-1 win over Mackadown Social.
With a 7-2 win at Shard End Social Flights, Sheldon Heath Social Dukes made it seventeen straight wins, to put them within one win of the division one title.Lee ‘Twiggy’ Nash hit a 180 for Dovecote as they beat Sheldon Social 7-2.
Despite a 180 from A.Powell (Victoria Social) British Telecom won 6-3 to move another step nearer the division two title. Although T.Webster hit a maximum there was a shock for second placed Shannons as they went down 6-3 at the BCS Club.

In an under 18/21 match between Warwickshire and Yorkshire, the local county registered a fabulous 12-3 win. In the under 18 match the 7-0 victory was thanks to Kevin Wildman, Lee Harris, Simon Winters, Robert Thompson, Andrew Facer, Lee Rowley and Daniel Guest. The under 21 ladies team aslo had a clean sweep beating their counterparts 3-0. Winners for Warwickshire were Abby Winters, Viki Franklin and Yvonne Simpson.
The only downside of the match was the fact that the under 21 men’s team lost 3-2, their winners being Mark Carter and Carl Winters.
