There was mixed fortunes for Scott Mitton in the Belgrave Social Individual League this week as he began with a 2-1 win over Colin Farrington and then lost by the same margin against Mick Chater. Meanwhile, leader Steve Dwyer chalked up his seventeenth win out of nineteen when he defeated Phil Jones 3-0 to open up a nine points gap between him and second placed Mitton, although Mitton does have one game in hand.

It was a quiet week for maximums with only three being recorded by Terry Clinton, Gordon Clinton and Lance Thompson.

On the agenda for the Harborne and District Summer League were the third round’s of their League Cup and Consolation Cup. Neither cup produced any major shocks, however in the League Cup, the all division one clash between leaders Midland Red and the George, saw the former storm to a convincing 8-1 win. There were also similar wins for the Highlander and Smethwick Labour Club against respective opponents Pheasant and Coopers Arms.

In the Consolation Cup Ladywood Social were the biggest winners, an 8-1 verdict over Greenlands Social, while Hobsons Choice beat Cock Inn 7-2 and Raven accounted for Bartley Green Social Flights with a 6-3 result.

Saltley Amateur Gardeners were in top form in group one of the Sheldon and District Summer League as they recorded a 7-1 away win over the Malt Shovel, T.Randell hitting a 180 for the Gardeners. Maximums were also hit by S.Dwyer (RAFA) in a 5-3 win at Sheldon Heath Dukes.

In group two J.Ardron (Hen and Chickens) and P.Vasey (Harvester) found the top score as in turn their teams registered 6-2 and 5-3 victories against Sheldon Social and Iron Horse.

J.Collins (Sheldon Shoes) was the only player in group four to hit a maximum, but his team finished on the wrong side of a 5-3 result against Horseshoes. Group five’s 180 was supplied by J.Hadden (Glebe C.C. Flights), they finished all square at four each with Solihull Borough FC.

Heartlands gained a vital 7-2 home win over Victoria 301 Club in the Small Heath Summer League. Prior to the encounter, Victoria were top of the table on 10 points with Heartlands two points behind them. Heartlands win has taken them into pole position, level on points with Victoria, but ahead on average.

There was no change at the top of the Longwood League as the top two teams both won. Leaders Dolphin maintained their five points advantage with a 5-3 win at the Gate Inn, who were lying in third place, while Red Lion ’A’, also playing away won 7-1 against the Queens ’B’.

In division two bottom team Jolly Sailor secured their second win of the campaign, a 5-3 verdict against the Royal Oak., but they still remain three points adrift of their nearest rivals Cue Sports Club.

Congratulations to Steve Penwright, Lee Jones and Angie Perry who will all play in the finals of the Winmau World Masters after winning through in the West Midlands play off’s at Gilbert Bar, Willenhall.

Finally I would like to thank Lee Woodhouse, manager of the O² shop in Merry Hill for helping to keep this column going. To explain, I recently purchased a new mobile, but unfortunately after only a few weeks it began to have problems. It was suggested it would have to go away to be repaired and it could take up to four weeks.  I explained to Lee how vital my mobile was to this column and without further ado he exchanged it for a new one. On behalf of my contributors and especially myself, many thanks Lee.
