A Look Back In Time 21.10.2009

The Four Oaks and District League have got their new season underway and it’s great to see in this day and age when most leagues have been suffering with dwindling numbers and in some cases even fading into the ether that Four Oaks have actually extended their membership and gone from two to three divisions. Well done to the Four Oaks officials.

On the league front Boldmere Sports are the early leaders in division one with a slightly better average than Old Oscott Arrows, reigning champions Sutton Sports and newcomers White Lion.

In the second division another new team Fox and Dogs lead the way and close on their heels are Oscott Social, Aston Social and the Fox.

Yet another new team White Lion Barrels are top of division three and also with wins in their opening games were Drakes Drum, Brookvale and Bromford Social.

There were three 180’s in the first games of the season and they were supplied by A.Kimberley (Deer’s Leap), D.Perry (Fox) and I.Scattergood (Boldmere Flights). P.Koyce (White Lion) had a 160 break.

The Harborne and District 401 League produced a top of the table clash this week between second placed Smethwick Labour Club and third in the table Thimbermill. It was a close game but the 5-4 verdict went in favour of the hosts, Thimbermill. Hillyfields ’B’ stay top and stretched their unbeaten run to seven games with a 6-3 win at home to Quinborne Social ’A’and are now the only team undefeated in the league. Smethwick Labour hold on to second spot despite their defeat and are two points behind Hillyfields with 12 points. Bell Inn ’B’, who won 7-2 at Quinton Members Club and Thimbermill are a further two points behind however, Thimbermill have played one fixture fewer than the teams above them.

Three maximums this week and they were hit by M.T.Ingram (Bell Inn ’A’), M.Littleford and P.Bishop both from Bell Inn ’B’. A.Hykin jnr (Quinborne Social ’A’) recorded a 160 break.

On the agenda for the Small Heath League was the Presentation Night Blind Doubles Knockout. Scooping the honours with a final victory over Neil Parsonage and Daniel Thomas were Glynn Thomas and Roy Congrave.

----------------------------------

The Pip Club League were engaged with their 180 and Challenge Cups. In the first round of the 180 Cup Glascote Club and Birchmoor in turn defeated Queens Head and Belgrave Club. In round two Red Lion ’A’ beat Glascote Club while Birchmoor progressed to the semi-finals with a win over Sports Bar 180.

One semi-final result in the Challenge Cup and that was a win for North Warwick Cricket Club who accounted for Kettlebrook Club.
