A 20-16 reversal at home to Cambridgeshire was Warwickshire fate in their most recent BDO Inter Counties Championship fixture. Warwickshire have now gone three games without a win on the back of three previous victories. Tom McGlone (31.31) was in top form for the ‘A’ side helping them to a 7-5 win. The ‘B’ finished all square at 6-6, with Dave Wykes (28.920) taking the match award.

Clare Bywaters, with a 26.37 average was the ’A’ teams lady of the match in a 3-3 draw, but unfortunately the ’B’ teams 6-0 defeat saw the weekend’s game finish at 20-16 to Cambridgeshire.

Despite the defeat and dropping to fifth in the table, Warwickshire are only five points adrift of Cambridgeshire, who are second in the division.

West Midlands, third in division three, played a vital game at home against second placed Cornwall. Both men’s teams won 7-5, with Mick James (33.40) and Gary Taylor (28.17) taking the respective ’A’ and ’B’ awards. The ladies ’A’ had a creditable 4-2 win, but like Warwickshire the ’B’ team ended up on the wrong side of a 6-0 whitewash. Angie Perrry (20.21) took the ’A’ team award as the final scoreline saw the honours shared at 18-18.

West Midlands remain four points adrift of Cornwall and fifteen behind leaders County Durham, who suffered a shock 19-17 defeat against Nottinghamshire.

Congratulations to Birmingham Central who have won the Warwickshire Ladies Super league title with 24 points, just two more than runners up Leamington Sureway and third placed Coventry Bishopsgate.

Most wins went to Lesley Newcombe (Birmingham Central), who won fourteen of the fifteen fixtures. Lesley also lifted the most tons title, 75 and throughout the season won the most lady of the match awards, 8.

Trina Gulliver (Leamington Sureway) hit the most maximums, 3 and also recorded the least darts 13. The highest checkout was 149, which was achieved by H. Rogers (Stratford).

The match between Highwood and St Annes in the premier division of the Sheldon and District Winter league, produced no fewer than three maximums. P.Nunn hit one for Highwood, while M.Noonan and A.Whitehouse replied for St Annes. However, although St Annes had the most 180’s, they went down 5-4. In the same division Malt Shovel’s F.Goldbey recorded a tremendous maximum 170 outshot, helping his team mates to a 6-3 win at RAFA.

In the first division J.Evans scored a 180 in Glebe Community Centre’s 5-4 win at Shard End Social, while in division two there were 160 breaks for P.Moran (Banbury Club) and R.Robinson (Sheldon and Marlboro).

Cup matches were on the agenda for the Forest of Arden Winter league. First in the all Highwood final of the Presidents Cup Highwood Arrows finished as 8-1 champions against the Highwood. The match included a 160 break and 9 darts game for Nigel Green plus a 180 for Chris Grimes, both Highwood players. For Arrows Bob Nixon had a 9 darts game and Jim Norris notched a 180.

In the semi finals of the Consolation Cup Red Arrows got the better of Hobs Meadow with a 6-3 result. From the other half of the draw Harvester just got the better of a 5-4 verdict against Greville Arms.

The Harborne and District league staged the semi-finals of their League Cup. With an eight darts leg from E.Simpson, the George moved into the final with a resounding 6-1 win over W.C.WMC,

In the Consolation Cup semi-finals the Hillyfields accounted for Hobsons Choice beating them 5-2. Hillyfields will now take on Quinborne Flights in the final after they took out the Cock Inn with a 7-0 whitewash.

As a result of their 5-4 win over McVeighs, Victoria 301 Club have taken over pole position in the Small Heath Winter league. With ten points from six games Victoria are two points clear of the rest of the field, Custard House, who defeated Innisfree (formerly Red Devils) 5-4, and McVeighs both have eight points.
