Article: THE ADONIS WORLDMATCHPLAY DIARY

THE ADONIS WORLDMATCHPLAY DIARY

First game on at The Sky Bet Mobile World Matchplay and I was over the moon beating Terry Jenkins 10-3 with a 101 average, as Terry is such a good player.

After leading 3-0, I missed a few doubles and Terry levelled.

Securing an early break of throw in the opening leg followed by a nerve-settling 180 helped my cause, and from then on my darts flowed, as I quickly doubled my lead with a x13 darter and a double 8 to take the third.
However, soon had a wake up call when I missed 4 darts to take the fourth leg and Terry checked out a superb 118 to get off the mark.

Terry looked confident hitting 180 and double 18 to pull back to 3-2, leveling in a dramatic sixth leg after I missed a relatively easy 52 finish by busting on treble 20 – DOH!!
The next leg was crucial and I had to start strong, a few deep breathes cleared the mind and my arm flew, which saw me rattle off the next seven legs in fine style, hitting 12 and 11  darts to make it 5 -3.
A Checkout on 85 in two darts, for a fourth straight leg and a 13 darter moved me 8-3 up and I felt like I was flying.
Terry started the next leg with another maximum but missed double 18 for a 93 finish and I took out 80 to move a leg away from a win, which I sealed with another 13 dart finish.

It was hard being the opening game of the tournament but it’s a great result for me too win seven consecutive legs and a place in the second round.

Looking forward to my game against Mark Webster tonight, as Mark and I are good mates who love a good high scoring ding dong…
