Temple^s Too Rich for Corner
Whitwell^s PDC Professional Terry Temple became the 2014 YDP Masters Darts Open Champion with an impressive victory over York^s Rich Corner in the Streamline Taxis and Red Dragon Darts sponsored event played at Huntington WMC on Saturday 25th January 2014.
Temple (Av 88.62)included 4 x 180^s and two ton plus finishes in defeating Corner (Av 82.73) 4 sets to 1 in the best of 7 set final. Temple set off with legs of 13-20-20-15-19 and 14 to open up a 3-0 set lead with Corners replies of 18 and 17 failing to stop the run. Set four went to Corner with 18 and 17 which was followed by an 18 dart opener in set five for Temple. Corner, fighting to stay in the match produced a 106 finish for 15 then after missing darts at the double allowed Temple to take out a 120 shot for 18 darts and the match, winning the £1,000 first prize.
The first Semi-final saw Corner in top form whitewashing Yorkshire^s Graham Elvidge 3 sets to 0 and 2-0 in each set. Legs of 16-17-18-16-120 finish for 15 and 18 saw Corners average reach 90.18 with Elvidge on 79.69. The other Semi-final saw Clevelands Alan Edwards take the first set 2-0 in 19 and a 121 finish for 15. Temple responded with 21 and 14 to level and then legs of 23-16-21 and 22 gave Temple a 3-1 victory, Edwards other winning legs were 19 and 17. Edwards (Av 77.35) and Temple who included 3 x 180^s Averaged 76.90.
