SOFT DARTS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2013 THE WORLD – STAGE 6
256 players from over a dozen countries took part in Stage 6 at the Riviera Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas. It was held in conjunction with DARTSLIVE’s US Open event and included players such as Stephen Bunting, Darryl Fitton and Adrian Gray from the UK, Larry Butler, Scott Kirchner and Darin Young from the US.
Losing finalist Eguchi, who beat Stephen Bunting 3-2 in the semi-final, in what was regarded as the match of the tournament, moves up to 5th place in the rankings with Ilagan moving up to 2nd.
Back to back winner Ilagan, who also won Stage 5 last month in Shanghai, said: "I feel so welcome here in the USA. I’m so happy to have won 2 stages in a row, it’s my proudest winning moments to date! I also won the USA stage of THE WORLD last year so to defend my title is amazing, I felt nervous but I’m very thankful.
I am so grateful to many - from my Manager Steve, my fans everywhere in the world for their love and support but most of all to my wife Geraldine. I would like to thank DARTSLIVE for believing in me and my sponsors Monster Darts and L-style."
DARTSLIVE have also just announced that the highest ranked player, after Stage 8 is completed, will go to the 2014 PDC World Championships. This is limited to DARTSLIVE’s own Pro’s and official players. If the selected player already has a spot at the PDC World Championships then the next highest ranked eligible player will be picked.
Paul Lim still leads the 2013 THE WORLD rankings and currently stands the best chance to represent the soft darts community at the 2014 PDC World Championships, with Lourence Ilagan now in 2nd place, Takehiro Suzuki in 3rd, Scott Kirchner in 4th with Yuji Eguchi and Benny Dersch closely behind in joint 5th place.
With over £300,000 in prize money the world’s biggest soft tip tournament, the SOFT DARTS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2013 THE WORLD is spread over 8 stages. Stage 7 moves back to Hong Kong on 13th October, as does Stage 8 a few weeks later. The GRAND FINAL will take place on 14th to 15th December also in Hong Kong and this year and will be contested by the top 100 ranked players who have played in at least 3 stages of THE WORLD.
