MARTIN ‘Wolfie’ Adams hit a few howlers but still went on to win the Winmau BDO World Masters last night.

The Cambridge thrower beat Scott Waites 7-6 in a nail-biting final which needed to go to a tie-break, Adams eventually winning by two clear legs to pick up the £25,000 winning cheque in Bridlington

Adams, 52, missed several chances to win the match and admited: “The nerves started to creep in, but these things happen.

“I missed a few doubles to win it, the double 19 attempt was so far away it should have been called a wide!

“It’s my 15th appearance in the World Masters and I’ve finally won it, it’s a wonderful feeling. It’s the greatest darts trophy in the world.”

Yorkshireman Waites said: “There was nothing in it for the entire final but I just couldn’t break him, I didn’t take my chances.”

Current BDO world champ Mark Webster was beaten in the last 16 by Scot Ross Montgomery while hotly-fancied Scot Gary Anderson also crashed out early to Norway’s Robert Wagner.
