Article: Forge hammer out fine win

Forge hammer out fine win

THE Forge turned in an impressive performance as they cruised to an 8-4 Airdrie & District Darts League win at home to Whiskey Joe’s.
Davie Mooney got the Coatbridge team off to a flying start by claiming a 14-dart win and that display suggested it was likely to be a long night for the visitors.
Jim Smith’s 18-dart success and a 20-dart victory for Jim McCreadie saw Forge run out comfortable winners.
The other league fixtures doubled up as qualifiers for the finals of the nine-man team competition, so there was plenty at stake.
The Swan’s Jim Simpson has been in good form recently, as was proved when he qualified for the Winmau Masters.
But Ian McIlroy produced a fine performance to leave the Swan scrambling to claim a draw.
In the cup match, the Swan sneaked home in the last leg, their 5-4 win owed a lot to a brilliant 152 checkout from Jim McLaughlin.
Fourways were rampant in both of their games against The C Team, claiming a 10-2 success in the league and a 5-1 triumph in the cup.
Highlights included a 17-dart victory for Mick Burke who then teamed up with Hugh Rice in the doubles for another 17-dart win.
Derek Cunningham and Ian Armstrong combined for a 16-dart doubles success; Frank Quinn chipped in with a checkout of 134 and Robert Townsend delivered a maximum in an 18-dart victory.
Cue Here have suddenly discovered some form and they secured a double win over The Stables. Chris McMillan’s 180 stole the show during 7-5 and 5-1 victories.
Workmens’ B travelled to Caldercruix to take on The Clansman in the double-header of the night.
Cammy Reynolds got the visitors off to the perfect start, winning in 16 darts, but the hosts bounced back in style and rattled off a hat-trick of successes.
It was tied at the break before Gerry Brown and John Hunter put Workmens in front, a lead wiped out by Paul McGinley and George Stallard.
Clansman – who won the cup match 5-3 – went into the final leg 6-5 ahead but couldn’t close the deal with Reynolds and Ian Gibb earning the visitors a point at the death.
The Boar’s Head were unconvincing in their 7-5 league win at The Lounge but improved in the cup, romping to a 5-0 success.
League results: Forge 8 Whiskey Joe’s 4; Workmens A 6 Swan 6; Fourways 10 The C Team 2; Cue Here 7 Stables 5; Clansman 6 Workmens B 6; Lounge 5 Boar’s Head 7.
Fixtures for Monday, December 8: League: The C Team v Clarkston, Clansman v Swan, Fourways v Cue Here, Boar’s Head v Forge, Stables v Workmens A, Workmens B v Lounge.
