Lakeside World Professional Darts Day 3 Evening Session Highlights
Game 1: Andy Baetens 3-2 Scott Baker
It was 2 Lakeside debutants that opened the Evenings play in a really rapid fire match which saw the match go to a 5th set tie-break. It was the Belgian that was able to set-up his game however as he fired in 5 perfect darts to take the decider with a 12 dart leg.
"It's been a good year for me, my confidence is really high" stated Baetens
"Scott Mitchell next is a very good player and it will be a very good match"
Game 2: Trina Gulliver MBE 2-1 Vicky Pruim
10 time Ladies Champion Trina Gulliver hit a strong opening round average of just over 80 in her victory. The Golden Girl now faces the winner of Paula Jacklin and Aileen de Graaf.
Trina has been struggling slightly over the weekend with a back issue: "It happened on Friday when I arrived"
"I twitched it, I'm ok to throw but it's if I have to pick anything up is the problem. I'll be trying to avoid bounce-out where possible!"
Game 3: Dean Reynolds 3-1 Chris Harris
Dean Reynolds eased his way into the next round despite a slight lapse in the 3rd set of his match. Dynamite burst into a 2-0 lead with pin-point accuracy on his doubles however, the Welshman took his foot off the gas slightly and Harris pounced to take set 3 before Reynolds took it up a gear to win the match.
After the match Reynolds reflected open his 1st win at Lakeside: “I’m happy but it was probably my worst performance up there in three years. But all I did this year was practice my finishing. That let me down last year.
“I got up there and the treble 20 looked tiny and the doubles looked massive. So if I can put them both together I’ll be happy."
Game 4: Darryl Fitton 3-2 Justin Thompson
Darryl Fitton survived a close encounter with Australian Justin Thompson to set-up a match with reigning champion Glen Durrant. The Dazzler closed out the game in typical show-stopping style as he hit a 170 check out in the final leg.
Speaking to Tungsten Tales after the match Fitton said: "The last set was when i really started to show some fight. The first set I was brilliant, hitting 100% of my checkouts which is not like me!
"I'm playing Glen Durrant, World Champion, next and I'll thrive on that. I'm not scared to play the best, I've caused upsets here before."
