"Dynamite Blows Hitman Away"

The final qualifying stage of the YDP Masters Darts Open, sponsored by Streamline Taxis and Red Dragon Darts, saw a high quality field looking to take one of the last eight remaining places available for the Grand Finals which take place on Saturday 25th January 2014 at Huntington WMC in York.

Mexbrough^s Darren Johnson, who plays on the PDC Circuit hit legs of 19-15 and 16 to brush former PDC tour player Chris Thompson aside in a 4-0 whitewash in the Final.

Johnson defeated Mark Harley (16) 3-1 with 2 x 18^s and a 17 dart leg in the first semi-final whilst Thompson hit 17 and 16 beating Hulls Arron Holdstock by the same margin.

The 1/4 Finals saw Hartley close a 13 dart leg in defeating Tommy Lishmon (Hull) 3-0. Johnson (16-18-19) won 3-0 against Terry Temple (Whitwell-on-the-Hill), Holdstock beat Lincoln^s Scott Bennett 3-2 with Thompson winning 3-1 over Clevelands John Stacey.

Other legs of distinction during the earlier rounds were hit by Matt Padgett 18-18-15-15, Hartley 18-20-20-17, Johnson 21-18-19-15, Holdstock 13-15, Temple 16-18-19-16, Paul Cooper 18-12, Thompson 18-18-16-13-17-16-15-15, Mick Nixon 16-19, Alan Dawson 18-16-19, Justin Hobson 21-15. 18 darters we hit by Jonathan Crosland, Steve Mann and two from John Stacey. Simon Rimington and Steve Kemp (Jnr) hit 17 dart legs.

The highest checkout of the day came from Cooper 160 with other ton plusfinishes from Nick Cass & Holdstock 120, Padgett & Justin Hobson 118, Johnson 102 and Temple 100. Double 180 hitters were Dave Kerr and Holstock with further 180^s from Dave Lord, Crosland, Steve Mann, Phil Hoggarth, Tommy Heron (Snr) and Darren Boyd.

The Grand Finals are at Huntington WMC North Moor Road, York on Saturday 25th January 2014. All players must register and be in attendance by 1pm for a 1.30pm start. The format for the Grand Finals is: Last 64 best of 5 legs, Last 32 and 16 best of 7 legs, 1/4 Finals best of 9 legs then the Semi-finals (best of 3 legs, best of 5 sets) and the Grand Final (best of 3 legs, best of 7 sets) with the overall winner receiving £1,000.

Spectators are more than welcome with no entry charge.

We will also be taking entries for the first qualifying stages of the Blue Bell Hotel Darts Championship at this event with a Prize fund of over £5,500. The first qualifier is on Sat 1st Feb (registration closes 3pm for 4pm start) and the second qualifier on Sun 2nd Feb (registration closes Midday for a 1pm start).
