Duffman’s Defence Continues

Reigning Lakeside World Champion Neil Duff recovered from 2-1 down in sets to defeat Martyn Turner 3-2 on Day 6 of the 2023 WDF World Darts Championship. Duffman included 5 180s over the 5 sets played with the 15th Seed, setting up a Quarter Final with Chris Landman who defeated Thomas Junghans earlier in the day, also in a last set decider.

The Last 16 contest went with throw in the opening 2 sets, before a three-leg surge from The Mutts Nut including a 116 finish tipped the match back into his favour, taking a 2-1 lead in a race to 3 sets.

The reigning world champion though dug deep when it really mattered, including an 80 checkout in the fourth set before punishing missed darts at tops from Turner to level the match at 2-2.

Duff closed the 5th and final set out with his last dart at double 5, securing a 3-2 victory over a spirited Martyn Turner at Lakeside and setting up a Quarter Final with 2023 Pro Tour Finalist Chris Landman.

The WDF Ladies World Championship Quarter Final lineup was also confirmed on Day 6, with former 4 Time Champion Lisa Ashton fighting off a spirited performance from Priscilla Steenbergen to win 2-1 and set up a clash with Kirsty Hutchinson, who beat 6th Seed Wendy Harper 2-0 earlier in the day.

There were wins for the likes of Danny Lauby Jr, former winner Jelle Klaasen and Dennis Nilsson on Thursday in Surrey, with the Swedish international defeating 13th Seed Alexander Merkx 3-1 in the afternoon session. 2006 winner Klaasen included a 134 finish in the deciding 5th set before clinching a last leg decider against compatriot Dennie Olde Kalter.

The Quarter Finals of the 2023 WDF World Championship will take place on Friday from Lakeside, with Beau Greaves returning to face American international Paula Murphy in the Ladies draw. Dennis Nilsson will face Wesley Plasier in the Quarter Finals, with the Dutchman enjoying a successful debut so far at the home of world darts.
