
Darts News – A West Midlands Round Up
Last season in the Cosmo Darts Premier Division of the UKDA National League Warwickshire began the season with a home tie against Cornwall which they lost 20-16, this season they began with the same Cornwall fixture but playing away and they could not have wished for a better start to their campaign as they chalked up a 25-11 win to put them top of the premier table with twenty-eight points, one more than second placed Lancashire who had a 24-12 home win over Dorset.
Saturday’s ‘B’ games saw the ladies win 4-2 with their top player being Kacie O’Connor who won 3-1 against Tyrian Jesse (Cornwall) and averaged 20.49. The men’s ‘B’ handed out a 10-2 thrashing to their counterparts with Mark Strong topping the averages with his 27.22 in a 4-1 win over Kevin Bray.
In Sunday’s ‘A’ games the ladies, like the ‘B’ side won 4-2, a 3-0 win over Sandra Allen and a 22.77 average earning Wendy Adams the match award. The men’s ‘A’ had a 7-5 win and taking the man of the match award was Warwickshire newcomer Dom Taylor who had a 4-1 win over Lee Agar with a superb average of 33.76.
What a fantastic weekend’s results and a top of the table position, it could not have been a better start of the new campaign for the Bears.

After gaining promotion last season West Midlands first fixture back in the Andy Wheeler Fisheries Championship Division was a home tie with Kent. Both of the ladies teams finished all-square at 3-3, for the ‘B’ side Kelly Aston took the match award for her 15.55 average and 3-1 win over Rebecca Garrett while Gemma Barrett was the top lady in the ‘A’ game, Gemma winning 3-2 against Jackie Holman with a 21.89 average.
As the ladies both had 3-3 results, the men both had 7-5 results. The ‘B’ team’s man of the match was Martin Price who averaged 28.78 in his 4-2 win over Dave Saint and taking the ‘A’ team’s award was Richard Platt for his 27.98 average and 4-3 win over Peter Gallacher.
The overall 20-16 win for the weekend saw West Midlands take up third position in the table but on the same twenty-three points as the two teams above them, top of the table Cheshire and second placed Humberside.

In the L-Style Division One, Black Country had a home fixture with Derbyshire, the ladies ‘B’ match finished with a 3-3 scoreline with Sarah-Jane Parker their top player with a 16.75 average in her 3-2 win over Jax Sweet. The men’s ‘B’ had a narrow 7-5 win with Ian Townsend their top man, Townsend averaging 24.56 in his 4-1 win over Jamie Waterfield.
Sunday saw Derbyshire ladies ‘A’ romp to a 5-1 victory with Chez Allcock the sole winner for Black Country, Allcock won 3-1 against Carol Western with a 16.96 average. With the overall score at 13-11 to Derbyshire the pressure was on the men’s ‘A’ to secure the win. They came up trumps with an 8-4 success to give the hosts a close 19-17 win with Tom Bissell their man of the match, Bissell winning 4-2 against Jamie Hill with a 29.34 average.
The win sees Black Country lying fifth in the division with twenty-two points just three fewer than leaders Merseyside.

The League Cup semi-finals were on the fixture card for the Sheldon and District Summer League, the first of the semis seeing group three side Raven take on, currently second in group one, Langley Arrows and as expected the 4-3 result went to Langley Arrows. The second game was another group three team taking on a group one side with Moseley Rugby Club squaring up to group one leaderes Raven Arrows. The result, a resounding 7-0 win for Raven Arrows to set up a final between the league’s top two teams on Thursday 25th September
There were a couple of rearranged league fixtures played in which group two leaders Banbury Club won 5-3 against second place RAFA to confirm themselves as divisional champions. The other fixture was in group four in which Langley Pints almost certainly guaranteed themselves the runners-up spot with a 7-1 win over bottom of the group Trident Flights.

Northfield Conservative Club had a 7-2 home win over fourth placed Northfield Darts Club in the Harborne and District League to make it twenty-seven undefeated fixture and the league title all wrapped up as they have fifty-four points, six more than second placed Copper Fox ‘M’ who won 7-2 at home against Lion Bar. Copper Fox ‘M’ have one more fixture to play and have a two points lead on third placed Copper Fox ‘R’ who have two games to play after adding their latest 7-2 win at Harborne Stores, wins in their final two games would see Copper Fox ‘R’ leap-frog their local rivals to finish as runners-up.

In week nineteen of the Heartlands Sugardarts M&E Co Double Top League, the top four players held on to their positions. Leader Steve Cain began the night with a narrow 2-1 win over Geroge Drennan but then lost by the same margin to Charlie Rogers, nevertheless he holds on to pole position with eighty-three points, two more than second and third placed Martin Cooper and Matthew Cain. Cooper opened up with a 2-1 win over Dean Bond and followed that with a 3-0 succes against Matt Richmond in whicg he hit a maximum. Matthew Cain beat Ryan Barritt 2-1 and then won by the same 2-1 margin against fourth placed John Frost and although he is on the same eighty-one points as Cooper and only two behind Steve Cain he has a game in hand on Cooper and three in hand on Steve Cain. John Frost’s other game saw him win 3-0 against Gemma Whatley to put him on thirty-six points.

The Four Oaks and District League staged the preliminary round of their Brian Goodman Cup, biggest wins of the round went to St Thomas Lions and Rise Club who in turn won 8-1 against Misfits @ Holly Lane Sports and Social Club and St Thomas Arrows. Not far behind with 7-2 wins were Nomads @ Hollyfields and Plough and Arrows who accounted for their respective opponents Deer’s Leap and Sutton Sports. Old Horns Lion, Old Oscott Arrows, Great Barr Social Club, Erdington Arrows and HighcroftHotdogs sailed through to the next round with 6-3 wins in turn over Beggars Bush, Charley’s Flights, Oscott Social Club, Rosey Mac’s Bar and Sutton Sharks while there were narrow 5-4 wins for MinworthBulls over Bishop Vesey, Drakes Drum against Heartlands, Pint Pot Flights beat Rosey Mac’s and Walmley CSC Flights won against Hollyfields.

Results from game ten in the South West Birmingham Clubs League produced no changes in the positions in either of the two divisions. Northfield Darts Club continue to lead division one with sixteen points despite their latest 4-3 home defeat by second placed Stirchley United who are now just two points behind the leaders and two to the good on third placed Northfield Conservative Club ‘B’ who won their home tie with Quarry Lane Club 5-2.
In division two, Longbridge United lead the way, their most recent fixture with a 160 break from M.Lloydseeing them win 5-2 at home against Bournbrook to put them two points ahead of second placed West Heath CEM whose 4-3 loss at Perfection leaves them on fourteen points.

Of the starting line-up of twenty teams, only seven remain with an unbeaten record in week three of the Sedgley and Gornal Tuesday Night League. Parkes Hall and Quarry Bank Liberal Club currently share the number one spot, the former having a 6-3 home win over Jolly Crispin while the latter won 8-1 at British Oak. After the top two, four teams, Netherton Sports and Social Club, Bulls Head, Cabin ‘1’ and GornalBritish Legion all share the third place after Netherton Sports and Social Club won 7-2 at Wheatsheaf, Bulls Head went one better with an 8-1 success at home over Cabin ‘2’, Cabin ‘1’ beat Hilly House 6-3 and Gornal British Legion won their home game against Meadow Lark 8-1. Making up the top seven are Red Cow ‘1’ who were 5-4 winners at Stump.

Old Star kept their 100% win record intact in the Silver End Sunday Morning League with a 6-2 home win over Ten Arches to keep them three points to the good at the top of the table on second placed Dudley Sports ‘A’ who in their local derby with their ‘B’ side won 5-3. Although Dudley Sports ‘A’ trail the leaders by three points they have played one game fewer than the top side. Third in the league Brickmakers Arms with forty-three points are a further two points adrift after they won 5-3 at Tenth Lock .

The Bill Bishop Cup and Challenge Cup semi-finals were the order of the day for the Rowley Monday Night League, in the former there were no surprises as Gate Hangs Well beat Rowley Labour Club and Bell won against Hawthorns Tavern ‘A’,
In the Challenge Cup Hawthorns Tavern ‘B’ beat Huntingtree who are just two places and two points ahead of them in the league and joining them in the final will be Romsley Cricket Club after their win over Vine.

The Stourbridge and District Monday Night League staged the quarter-finals of their League Cup in which the biggest win went to Gornal British Legion who won 6-1 against Five Ways. Crestwood and Old Liberal Club in turn won 4-3 against Gigmill and Glasscutters ‘A’ while Seven Stars had a 4-1 win over Mount Pleasant. There was an eight darts game for Crestwood’s R.Winchurch while C.Morton (Old Liberal Club) had a 160 break.
