Darts News – A West Midlands Round Up

As the Harborne and District League moved into the first game of the second half leaders Northfield Conservative Club took their unbeaten run to twelve games with a convincing 8-1 win away to Cock Inn to maintain their two points lead on second placed Copper Fox ‘R’ who went one better by handing out a 9-0 whitewash to their hosts Lion Bar. Third and fourth in the league Copper Fox ‘M’ and Northfield Town are both on eighteen points, six short of the leaders. In their latest fixtures Copper Fox ‘M’ won 7-2 at home against The Mill while Northfield Town played away against Avenue Social and returned with a 9-0 victory. Smethwick Cricket Club were another team to keep a clean sheet winning 9-0 at Windsor to keep them fifth in the table on sixteen points.

There were five maximums scored this week two of them going to The Mill’s A.Beagrie while C.Airey (Northfield Conservative Club), K.Jukes (Copper Fox ‘M’) and T.Hamiltn (Copper Fox ‘R’) all recorded one score of 180.

Biggest surprise of the week in the Camp Hill League was the 4-3 win by Sedgemere Devil’s away to The Roost as this was the Devil’s first win in the league in at least two years, congratulations to all the Sedgemere team on their memorable victory. League leaders Wakefield Warriors made it six wins in as many games when they won 4-3 at home against Erdington Nomads. Second in the league Cotterills Lane EBAHA Club are on the same twelve points as Wakefield Warriors but they have played seven games after adding their latest 4-3 win over third in the table Tyseley Bears who now, with ten points two behind their opponents. Neil Parsonage (Cotterills Lane EBAHA Club) notched the only maximum of the week.

It was cup week in the Four Oaks and District League, round two of their Brian Goodman and Ken Rust Cups. In the Brian Goodman Cup third division leaders Pint Pot Flights had a superb 5-4 win away to Heartlands who are second in the division two table. Division one leaders The Beehive had a comfortable 8-1 win at home over division two leaders Walmley CSC Flights while there was a 5-4 win for division two side Drakes Drum away to St Thomas Arrows from division three. The Rise Club were awarded a 9-0 walkover against Highcroft Hotdogs.

The biggest surprise in the Ken Rust Cup came from the second division’s Red Lion who had an 8-1 home win over The Nomads from division one. Division three outfit Deer’s Leap lost their home game with Bishop  Vesey who are second in division one 7-2 while Plough and Arrow (division two) handed out an 8-1 defeat to their visitors Sutton Sports who are bottom of division three. Charley’s Flights (division two) progressed to the next round with the biggest win of the round a 9-0 success playing away and beating Rosey Mac’s Bar from division three.

On the fixture card for the Stourbridge and District Wednesday Night League was the preliminary round of their League Cup with the winners going through to the Main Cup and the losers going into the Shadow Cup. Winning throuhg to the Main Cup were Fox Inn (Lye), Old Liberal Club, White Horse, Beech Tree Miners, Stourbridge FC, Hollybush, Old Liberal Club ‘A’, Wheatsheaf, plus Rose and Crown who had a bye.

The first round of the Shadow Cup will include Netherton Conservative Club, Garibaldi, Five Ways ‘B’, Plough, Bird in Hand ‘E’, Five Ways ‘A’, Brickmakers Arms and Mount Pleasant,

The Rowley Monday Night League has reached the halfway point of its season and leading the field are reigning champions Bell whose latest 8-1 home win over Hawthorns ‘B’ keeps them two points ahead of second in the league Plough and Harrow who with a 160 break from K.Chambers added a 5-4 home win over Rowley Bar and grill to their account. Hawthorns are third in the league table they are four points off the top after adding their 7-2 home win over Romsley Cricket Club to their tally which at the same time puts them four points ahead of their fourth placed opponents. Gate Hangs Well who are seventh in the league with eighteen points had a 5-4 home win over Whiteheath Tavern, they are fifth with twenty points, J.Allan having a 160 break plus a nine darts leg for Gate Hangs Well.

Old Liberal Club with a 160 break from their S.Hall rounded off the first half of the season in the Stourbridge and District Monday Night League with a 6-1 win playing away against fifth in the league Netherton Conservative Club ’B’. The win made it eighteen wins in eighteen games for the league leaders and keeps them four points to the good on their nearest rivals Gate Hangs Well ‘B’ who with a maximum from their B.Fitzgerald won their home tie with Fox Inn (Lye) 4-3. Princess are placed third in the table on thirty points, six off the top after adding on their 5-2 away win over Rose and Crown ‘B’ who at the bottom of the table and are the only team in the league without a win so far in their eighteen games.. J.Curren (Rose and Crown ‘A’) had a 160 bre4ak in his team’s 4-3 defeat away to Queens Head.

Somewhat surprisingly leaders of the Silver End Sunday Morning League Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club were held to a 4-4 draw at home playing against seventh in the league Tenth Lock who are thirteen points behind them. Despite the draw Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club remain in pole position with thirty-one points from twelve games while second placed Dudley Sports ‘A’, who won 5-3 away to third placed Old Star to put them on the same twelve points but from one game fewer. Old Star’s defeat leaves them three points behind the top two teams and on the same twenty-eight points as fourth in the league Mount Pleasant who had a 5-3 home win over Old Cat Inn, Mount Pleasant also have a game in hand on both Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club and Old Star.

The results from week fourteen of the West Midlands Ladies Super League saw no change at the top of the table as leader Jackie Trott added a 3-1 win over Julie Emery to her total and second placed Gemma Barrett won by the same 3-1 margin in her fixture with Jacqui Simmons to put both players on the same forty points but with Barrett having played fifteen games, one more than Trott. Third and fourth placed Jacqueline Maiden and Shellbie Simmons have a similar situation as Maiden has thirty-four points from thirteen games and Simmons thirty-four points from fifteen games. Jacqueline Maiden suffered a setback as she went down 3-1 to Sarah Barrett while Shellbie Simmons had a straight 3-0 win over Sam Rowley.

The West Midlands Men’s Super League produced a local derby this week between leaders Kings Head ‘A’ and Kings Head ’B’ who are placed fourth in the league table. The result was a close 3-2 win for the ‘A’ team to take their points tally to forty-five from twelve games while the ‘B’ side remain fourth with forty points. Second in the league Dog and Partridge are just one point behind Kings Head ‘A’ after they won 4-1 at home against Wednesbury British Legion giving them a two points advantage over third placed Gilbert’s Bar ‘B’ who lost ground in the title race as they lost 4-1 away to fifth in the league Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club who are three points behind them with a game in hand, Junction ‘B’ lie at the foot of the table, so far without a win in their ten fixtures.

It’s level-pegging on points at the top of the Cradley Heath Tuesday Night League with Quarry Bank Liberal Club ‘A’ and Quarry Bank Liberal Club ‘B’ both on thirty points, the ‘B’ side having played one game more than the ‘A’. Quarry Bank Liberal Club ‘A’ had a 6-1 home win over next to bottom of the table Tenth Lock to keep them top on average while the ‘B’ side won their game with third in the table Bulls Head 5-2, Bulls Head now some nine points short of the two teams above them as are fourth in the league Plough who fell further behind as they lost 4-3 away to Blackheath Liberal Club.

In the Amblecote RBL Premier League Dan Nicholls missed the opportunity to widen the gap between himself and reigning champion Nick Fullwell when he lost 4-3 to him in the latest round of fixtures. Nevertheless Nicholls then handed out a 7-0 whitewash to his next opponent Stephen Cartwright to give him a total of 204 points from thirty-seven games. Fullwell who is currently third in the league maintained the pressure on Nicholls as he also won 7-0 against Howard Pritchard to give him 196 points from the same thirty-seven fixtures. Reece Colley is placed second he has played the same number of games as both Nicholls and Fullwell, his latest fixtures seeing him win 4-3 against Chris Williams and 6-1 against Jake Robinson to take his number of points to 198. Late entrant to the league Tom Bissell is playing catch-up with games and slowly moving up the table, on the night after adding 4-3 win over Martyn Harper he then beat Tony Bennett 7-0 and rounded off the evening with a 6-1 success over Matt Davies to give him a total of 127 points from twenty-four games. Bissell is currently lying in twenty-third place but he has a lot of games in hand that will undoubtedly see him move further up the table.

Although Scott Baker didn’t play this week in division one of the Gilbert’s Bar Monday Night Singles League he holds on to pole position with 124 points from seventeen games. Ian Stanton managed to reduce the arrears on Baker to fifteen points and has two games in hand as he beat Jon Blakemore 6-2, but despite the win Stanton dropped one place to third. Taking over in the number two spot is Dean Simmons-Fullwood who won 8-0 against Chris Evans to give him one more point than Stanton but from one game more than him.   

Division two leader, Kurt Wright was another player not to play on the night but again hold his position at the top of the division with 120 points from fourteen games with a lead of fourteen plus two games in hand on second placed Alan Melling who was held to a 4-4 draw by Alex Simmons.

After his latest 8-0 win over Lauren Kempson, Dave Thackeray has an eighteen points lead at the top of division three with a game in hand on his nearest rival Thomas Hollowood who won his game against Keogh Bate 6-2.
