Alan Towe - Salopian Super League - Week 3

After three weeks of the inaugural Salopian Super League there are three sides that boast 100 % records, Dawley Social Club (Telford) and Salopian Star (Market Drayton) are locked at the top with identical leg differences while Charles Darwin ‘A’ (Shrewsbury) are just behind in third equal on six points but trailing by six legs. The Compasses Inn (Shrewsbury) are the only other team in the fifteen strong league to remain unbeaten with two wins and a draw.

At the other end of the table Bulls Head (Whitchurch) and Charles Darwin ‘B’ (Shrewsbury) are the only sides without a point however that will change in week four when both sides meet at the Darwin. Two other Shrewsbury teams, Monkmoor and Inn on the Green ‘B’ complete the sides still awaiting a first win as this historic first super league season begins to take shape.

Individually Dawley Social’s Daniel Astbury is setting the standard leading the averages with current seasonal average of 27.91 per dart with Salopian Star’s Derek Coulson on 26.95. Charles Darwin’s Paul Rowley has an average per dart of 26.46 to complete the top three averages. Daniel Astbury also leads the way with most maximums having notched no fewer than five, plus he holds the least darts, which is thirteen. Astbury’s 125 checkout is the third highest to be hit so far, his team mate Andy Gilbert is in second place with 139 with Danny James recording the highest checkout of 150.

Sarah Roberts (Hop and Friar) is the highest ranked lady, 45th overall out of 112 registered players with a current season average of 20.29 per dart whilst her team mate Evonne Taylor is six places behind with a current average of 18.85 per dart. There is also a ladies individual league, (Hub) that meet on alternative Sundays which is currently led by Allison Gallagher.

Statistically speaking, from the 42 games played in the opening three rounds, 114 averages have been above 20 per dart with the weekly league average improving round on round to 20.36 at the end of week three, Salopian Star shining above all with a very impressive team average of 24.03 per dart in there last match, a 6-0 home win against Dickin Arms (Wem).
