So successful was the inaugural season of the C’s Club Double Top Wednesday Night League that their numbers have increased for the new campaign from 31 to 48. The league have begun the new season and five players Ryan Beale, James Buttle, Rob Hawker, Bob Nixon and Jake Webster have all kicked off with two 3-0 wins to put them on a perfect score of six points. Hot on the heels of the leading quintet are Phil Ashford, Steve Beale and Gary Groves who have won one of their games 3-0 and the other 2-1 to give them five points. The Four Oaks and District League have got their winter season underway and hitting the high scores from the word go were M.Compton (Old Oscott Arrows), T.O’Kereke (Golden Hind), J.Tolley and C.Hawkley (Oscott Sports) who all hit a 180. M.Ashton (Boldmere St Mikes) has already taken the highest finish for the season as in his game against Red Lion he checked out on 170. D.Perry (The Fox) laid down the gauntlet for the highest break as he broke with 160. Boldmere St Mikes top the division one table with a 7-2 win at Red Lion, Old Oscott Arrows are second and Golden Hind third all three teams on two points. In division two with 7-2 wins The Fox and St Thomas’s Social Club are the early pacesetters while three teams share the lead in division three Oscott Social, Rosey Mac’s and St Thomas Arrows all winning 7-2 in their opening fixtures. The final three fixtures were played in the Shirley Premier League which saw Ken Hopton beat Mick Bown (180) 3-1, Antony Daly finish all square at 2-2 with John O’Sullivan and Ken Hopton (180) having a 2-2 draw with Antony Daly, but it was all unessential as Steve Sidwell and Phil Thomas in turn had previously been proclaimed champion and runner up with Mark Henderson third. Gary Cleverley hit the most 180’s a total of 13 whilst the least darts, which was twelve, was shared between Mick Bown and Lee Harris. The highest finish of the season was 170 by Trevor Carter. The two players that finished at the foot of the table were invited to a play-off game with the winner earning his money back, a refund of the entry fee of £20. The match saw Karl Wilson take on Derek Harper and in a very close game Derek Harper was the winner. Twenty four players entered the End of Season Blind Pairs Knockout. There was a first prize of £58 to play for with the runners up collecting £20. The pairing of Phil Thomas, who finished second in the league, and Derek Harper, who finished bottom of the table, surprised a few by gelling into a competitive team that stormed to the final. From the other side of the draw Mick Bown and Andy Thomas reached the final. Despite a valiant effort from Phil and Derek, Mick and Andy were just too strong with Mick sealing the win with a clinical bull then double eight finish. Season 12 will begin on 8th November with the next few weeks hosting a series of knockouts. It was week one of the new season for the Forest of Arden Winter League and all of the opening three fixtures finished with a 7-2 result. The three table topping teams being C’s Kings, Crown at Shard End and Highwood GB. Three players, Mitchell Mann (C’s Kings), Chris Meigh (C’s Bullets) and T.Walton (Highwood GB) all beginning their campaigns with a score of 180. With the leaders of the Small Heath League, East Birmingham Allotment Holders Association having a bye in week eight second in the table Heartlands Club took the opportunity to draw level on games and move to within two points of them when they beat Cob’s Bar 7-2. C’s Top Guns completed their programme in group ‘A’ of the South Birmingham League with a 7-1 win over local rivals C’s Flights to give them a total of 10 points plus the title as they finished one point ahead of runners up Mackadown Social who won their final game against C’s Hot Shots 5-3. With one remaining fixture against C’s Arrows, a 7-1 win over The Trident took Iron Horse’s points to a perfect ten from five games. They win group ‘B’ as they are four points to the good on second placed Punchbowl who have played all of their games. The group ‘C’ title went to Marlborough Villains who finished two points to the good on runners up Coleshill Social. The top two teams in the Shirley and District Monday Night League, Highwood and The Wharf squared up to each other in week 13. Both teams were undefeated in their first eleven games but with an under strength side it turned out to be an unlucky thirteenth game for Wharf as they lost 7-2, their first defeat leaving them two points behind their opponents in pole position on 24 points. There were mixed fortunes for current leader of the ECC Thursday Night Champions League Robert Pierce as he kicked off the evening with a 5-2 win over Gemma Barrett but then lost by the same margin to Chris Manoila. Pierce remains top of the table with 44 points from ten games however second placed Andy Vellender won his first against Jordan Ward 4-3 and then lost 4-3 to Liam Baker to leave him two points adrift of Pierce with a game in hand. It was a good week for Gemma Barrett despite losing to Pierce as she followed up with her first win in tem when she won 4-3 against Rob Montana. Avenue Social and West Heath, first and second in the Kings Norton League, held on to their positions with a respective 5-2 win over Thurlestone and 7-0 success at Northfield. Rubery RBL, despite winning 4-3 at Harborne lost third place to Coppice, their 7-0 win over Grant Arms putting them on the same ten points as Rubery but with a better average plus a game in hand. After playing 29 and having just five fixtures remaining in the Brierley Hill Monday Night League the title is still up for grabs as the top two teams, Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club ‘A’ and Bulls Head (Netherton) are locked on 50 points each. The latest fixtures saw the Ex Serviceman’s win 8-1 at Brickmakers Arms and Bulls Head have a 6-3 result away to Lamp Tavern. The two top teams have a six points lead over third and fourth in the table Delph Bell and Dudley Sports ‘A’. All three games played in the Netherton Thursday Night League finished with a 5-4 scoreline and every one of them was decided in the very last game of the night. Leaders Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club won away to third in the table Townsend Social Club, while second placed Riddins Tavern had a home win over Netherton Conservative Club to keep them level on 54 points with the leaders but having played one game more than the top side. A 5-2 home win over third in the Camp Hill League Sheldon Marlborough Flights keeps White Swan Nomads top of the pile with 24 points from their 13 games. Second placed Tyseley WMC had a 6-1 home win over Station Wagon to keep the gap between them and Nomads to just two points, they are two to the good on Sheldon Marlborough Flights who have played one game less than them, a win would see them replace Tyseley in second place. The only losers in the top eight teams in the Silver End Sunday Morning League were leaders Brickmakers Arms ‘A’ who lost 5-3 at home to their nearest rivals, second in the table Netherton Cricket Club who despite the win are still six points behind the leaders with only three more games to play. Third in the table Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club beat Old Star 5-3 to keep them five points ahead of reigning champions and fourth in the table Woodside, but they remain five points behind the Cricket Club in second place. After 34 games just two points separate the top three teams in the Hilltop Friendly Tuesday Night League. The most recent fixtures saw leaders Tipton Sports beat Hayes Social 5-2 to give them 58 points, then comes Dewdrop ‘A’ and Island Inn who both have 56 points after Dewdrop beat fourth placed Waggon and Horses 4-3 and Island Inn won 6-1 against Ivy Bush, Dewdrop ‘A’ second with the superior average. Wheatsheaf and Bulls Head have swapped places in the Cradley Tuesday Night League table, Wheatsheaf moving up into second place after beating Bulls Head 6-3 who drop to third on the same 30 points as their victors and with a game in hand. There was no problems for league leaders Brickmakers Arms as they beat fourth in the table Netherton Cricket Club ‘A’ 6-3 to give them 38 points, a lead of eight. Four games to go in the Rowley Monday Night League and it’s anyone’s guess who will take the title out of The George and The Bell as both teams are on the same 50 points with only four legs of average the difference. In a week where the top half played and beat the bottom half leaders George increased their average lead slightly as they won 9-0 at Hare and Hounds while second placed Bell had an 8-1 success over Roost. Five of the bottom seven teams in the Stourbridge and District Wednesday Night League lost 7-0 in game 14 and the other two went down 6-1. Despite the big scores leaders Ashwood ‘A’ had a narrow 4-3 win over middle of the table Wilson Hall while their local rivals and second in the table Ashwood ‘B’ won 7-0 at Fox Inn (Lye) to keep within four points of their ‘A’ side with a game in hand.
