Darts News – Peter Wright Posts Second Highest TV Average

During his 7-2 win over Adrian Lewis last night, Peter Wright scored an average of 119.50 – 2nd highest in the history of televised tournaments. This eclipsed his previous personal best of 109.48 against Gary Anderson just 2 weeks ago. Lewis himself posted an impressive 109 average but was powerless to resist Snakebite’s assault in Exeter.

With the Coral UK Open Finals taking place this weekend, Peter is hitting some superb form at the start of this year and will be keen to continue it with a great chance of winning the title. Wright claimed a hat-trick of wins in Qualifying as a platform going into the tournament in Minehead, he will be looking to go one step further that last year when he was defeated by World Number 1 Michael Van Gerwen. MVG is one of  a couple of notable absentees from the tournament with fellow Premier League Darts player Phil Taylor missing the tournament also. The Power misses the event as he winds down his final season before retirement and last year’s winner MvG has pulled out with a back injury that also saw him miss last night’s Premier League action.

There’s still a strong field ahead for Peter Wright, Simon Whitlock for instance has had a superb start to the year picking up 2 wins in Qualifying. Fellow Scotsman Gary Anderson, Raymond van Barneveld, Mervyn King, Adrian Lewis and James Wade to just name a few had strong qualifying campaigns will also be looking to pounce on Van Gerwen’s absence to claim a major PDC title. This has guaranteed a great 3 days of darts on the Somerset coast, certainly a tournament that you don’t want to miss!

The tournament will be an Open draw format with no seedings. The players ranked 65-96 plus the Rileys Amateur Qualifiers enter at the first round, with the players ranked 33-64 entering in the second round and the top 32 ranked players joining in round three.

All the action will be LIVE on ITV4, starting 11.45am Friday 3rd March with Rounds One & Two.
