Wales’ Jim Williams took the £10,000 winner’s prize at St. David’s Hall, Cardiff on Saturday 24th August, defeating Bradley Brooks 2-0 in the 2019 Worthington’s Champion of Champions final.
Once again, this year’s Champion of Champions finals day was a record-breaker, with the biggest prize fund for the event to date, with over 1000 people in attendance backing the people’s darts event, after record ticket sales.
The level of darts at finals day was without doubt of the highest standard, with no room for mistakes in the ruthless best of three format throughout the tournament.
In the opening leg of the final, Brooks won the all-important bull-off. Both men were feeling the pressure before a maximum from Williams kept him in contention to break throw. Bradley then spurned four darts at double tops before Williams stepped in to pin double ten with his second dart to take the opening leg.
Solid scoring from Williams in the second leg ensured he kept one step ahead of his opponent before finishing 70 on double 16 to become the sixth different champion in the event’s history.
There was a darts festival atmosphere echoing through the whole venue during the day, with some of the top players of the PDC global tour mixing it with county players, super league players and fans from across the UK & Ireland.
We saw plenty of upsets during the tournament, with the likes of Gerwyn Price and Jonny Clayton both eliminated before the last 16. We also saw 1995 World Champion Richie Burnett rolling back the years to make a run to the quarter-finals.
Attendees were joined by darts legends Bobby George and Colin Lloyd. They hosted a meet and greet session, 170 challenge and live Q&A session hosted by Phill Barrs – all adding to the party atmosphere as a celebration of darts.
Red Dragon Darts would like to thank our sponsors Worthington’s and Modus for their support in making this once again the biggest event yet.
We’d also like to extend our thanks to the team of markers, Bishop of Bedlam Promotions, Mark and Helen Lewis for running the Plate Event and the staff at St. Davids Hall for creating a professional environment for the players to thrive in.
