Third Time Lucky for Trina at Granite City Open

Winmau’s Trina Gulliver - 9 Times World Champion lifted the Granite City Singles title after battling through a field of 158 ladies in Aberdeen.

Trina beat Maggie Lyall 3-0 in round 1 which set her up against last years mixed pair’s finalist Rone Mollison from Perthshire, where she escaped with the narrowest 3-2 victory.

In the last 32 she played Judith Morrison storming to a 3-1 win, then In the last 16 Moira Coughlin from Tayvalley, who she brushed aside 3-0.

The quarter final featured Aberdeen’s Kelly Pirie, but she was no match for the World Number 1 as she eased to another 3-0 victory.

Her Semi finals opponent was Christine Hyde but she was no match for Trina and she swept to her third whitewash winning by 4-0.

The Final

Former World number 1 Russia^s Irina Armstrong had blasted her way to the final and the game wasn’t to disappoint.

Irina opened up with a 18 dart leg including a maximum to go 1 – 0 up.

Trina hit back winning the next 4 legs in 23 , 19 , 20, 24 darts , hitting 2 maximums in the process.

Irina then fought back winning the next 2 legs hitting another maximum to narrow the scoreline to 4-3.

With the match poised to go either way Trina stepped up a gear in leg 8 to win the title with a 17 darter checking it out on 58 for a 5 – 3 victory.
