"Ryan^s Express Halted by Sharp Corner"
Sixteen year old Ryan Hoggarth from Skipton fought his way through a tough field to reach his first York Darts Promotions organised event final. On route to the final Hoggarth (16) defeated Yorks John Quantock 3-2 in the last 16, Rab McKenzie (Barnsley) by the same margin in the 1/4 Finals and a 4-1 victory over Neil Hart (York) in the semi-finals. He then came across an ever consistant Rich Corner in the final and experience proved too much for the youth, although he will certainly be a name to look out for in the future. Corner had a 180 for 13, 135 finish for 21 then 17 and 18 dart legs in the final for a 5-0 victory. A 150 finish for 15, 180 for 15, and 18 darts before taking out 101 for 15, 17 and 15 in a 3-1 quarter final win over Yorkshire^s Brian Dawson and then 17, 18 and 21 darts saw off Ferrybridge^s Colin Hendry 4-0 to complete and impressive run from Corner.
Other fast legs during the early rounds came from Quantock 17, 14 and 16. Richard Webster (Driffeld) 16. John Bowler (Kendry) 15, 17 and 16. Johnathan Crossland (Cawood) 19 and 15. Hart 18, 18, 15, 16 15 and 21 and Hendry 17 darts.
Bowler added 2 x 180^s a 125 finish to his tally for the day whilst other 180 scores came from Martin Wilson, Quantock, Crossland and Tommy Herron (Snr).
