Streamline Taxis York Open Darts Championship Ranking Stage 8

"Owen^s Class Performance First Time Out"

Hulls Craig Owen produced a first class performance in winning Stage 8 of the Streamline Taxis York Open Darts Championship on his first visit to a York Darts Promotions organised event.

His opponent in the Red Dragon Darts Sponsored Stage Final was seasoned PDC Player Mark Lawrence who opened up a 2-0 lead with 19 and 120 finish for 18 darts. Owens responded with 118 finish for 15 and legs of 16 and 13 to take a 3-2 advantage before Lawrence levelled with 16 darts. The match concluded as Owens added 15 and 21 to win 5-3 with an 88.60 average. Lawrence had included 3 x 180^s in the final ending on a three dart average of 86.56.

Both players completed 4-1 wins in the Semi-finals with Owen (16-15-16 and 161 finish for 12) disposing of Rich Corner as Andy Wheeler (19) went down to legs of 14-17-21 and 21 from Lawrence all of whom received bonus products from Japanese dart company Cosmo Darts who are also donating further products for Stage 9.

Corner 13, 121 finish for 12 and 16 beat Scott Bennett in the 1/4 Finals putting in an average of 105. Neil Hart lost out 3-0 to Owen (18-18 and 13) a result emulated by Lawrence over Fred Evans (York University whilst Walshaw beat Cawoods Joshua Craw 3-2.

The highlight of the earlier group matches came from John Quantock who with his first dart, in his second match hitting single one, he then continued to add eight consecutive treble 20^s and finished with double 10 to complete a 10 dart leg. Quantock also added 3 x 18 dart legs plus 21 and 15. Matty Pemberton 19, Bennett 18, Corner 3 x 20-18 and 15 were the best of the rest in Group One.

Hart went out in 13 and 17 in Group Two with Vine 15, Scott Jackson 19-20 and Owens 3 x 18, 19 and 20 and Russ King 19 adding to the tally. Andy Walshaw (13) led the way in Group Three with Kirk Bevins 20 and 21 with Robbie Likess and Craw both hitting 21 dart legs. Lawrence (13) and Spiller (19 and 210 were the best in Four.

Further ton plus finishes were recorded by King and Craw 132 each, Evans 121 and 108, Corner 121, Spiller 128, Owens 120 and Vine 101 with 180^s being recorded by Hart and Lawrence (2 each), Corner, Owens, Pemberton, Steve Kemp (Snr) and Mark Herron. Sharon Neads hit a 180 plus two dart 90 finish.

Scott Bennett and Peter Rushby won the Blind Pairs beating Russ King and Trevor Day in the Final. Ken Norton/Chris Mathews and Neil Hart/John Holden were the beaten Semi-finalists.

Tommy Hogarth form Scarborough was the winner of the Youth knockout.

With just two stages remaining and a maximum of 40 further Ranking Points to be won the battle for a Top 48 place now hots up. Stage 9 which also has further Cosmo Darts products on offer for the semi-finalists and Highest finish plus fastest leg of the day is on Saturday 31st May with the final stage on 7th June both held at Huntington WMC in York. The Grand Finals take place on Saturday 28th June again at Huntington WMC.
