Article: Scottish success for O^Shea

Scottish success for O^Shea

COUNTY fanatic Tony O’Shea enjoyed more success on the British Darts Organisation circuit last weekend when he won the Scottish Open tournament in Renfrew.
O’Shea, the beaten finalist last month at the Lakeside World Championships, beat Sheffield’s Martin Atkins 5-4 in a thrilling final.
O’Shea looked to be cruising at 4-1 up, only for Atkins to rally and level the scores at 4-4. However, O’Shea, who picked up £2,000 in prize money for his efforts, produced a stunning 12-dart winning leg to take the trophy.
O’Shea beat Welshman Martin Phillips 4-2 in the semi-finals, and before that Ian White 3-2 at the last eight stage.
O’Shea has been in splendid form since the back end of last year, and came so close to securing World title glory at the Lakeside before losing agonisingly to Ted Hankey in front of millions of viewers on the BBC.
Fellow Stockport star Darryl Fitton went out in the earlier rounds in Glasgow.
Meanwhile, two more major BDO stars have made the switch to Barry Hearn’s rival Professional Darts Corporation set-up.
They are Scot Gary Anderson, who was the BDO’s top ranked player last year, and 2008 Lakeside World champion Mark Webster.
