Darts News – A West Midlands Round Up By Alan Towe

Warwickshire’s trip north to take on Cheshire in their latest premier division BDO Inter County Championship  fixture ended in a narrow 19-17 defeat, which sees them drop one place in the table to fifth.
It was not a bad weekend for the ladies as the ‘B’ side won Saturday’s game 4-2 with Marion Conway winning the lady of the match award with a splendid average of 21.17 and the ‘A’ side finishing all square at 3-3, Trina Gulliver (20.88) once again taking the match award.
There were mixed fortunes for the men as the ‘B’ slumped to a 9-3 defeat, William Naylor their top man with a 26.43 average. However, the ‘A’ team wound up the weekend’s proceedings with a 7-5 victory, Rob Hawker’s 27.69 average taking the man of the match award.

In the Four Oaks and District League The Beehive have drawn level on points with Sutton Sports at the top of division one inflicting on them their first defeat since the 29th October 2013, a close, but nevertheless vital 5-4 result for Beehive, who are the only unbeaten team in the division and have the advantage of a game in hand. Old Oscott Arrows, with a last gasp 2-1 win in the final game, which produced no fewer than nine scores of a ton or more, beat Golden Hind Arrows 5-4.
Boldmere Sports beat Pint Pot Flights 7-2 and Golden Hind won 6-3 at Old Oscott WMC to leave both teams tied at the top of division two. In an extremely close match Erdington Stars won the last two games 2-1 to beat Plough and Arrows 5-4.
With Anvil Nomads having a bye in division three The Fox grabbed the opportunity to go top of the division with a 7-2 win against Erdington Arrows aided by a 180 from A Jarvie. The only other maximum this week was supplied by Red Lion’s B.Hughes.

The Warwickshire Ladies Super League are four games into their new season and leading the table with six points are Cubbington ‘B, closely followed by Bishopsgate, who are also on six points. Nuneaton are placed third two points adrift of the leading duo.
Recording maximums so far are, Caroline Pike, Louise Graham, Wendy Adams, Natalie Gilbert and Kerry Bambridge. Melanie Hill leads the averages with 21.17 and the highest finish of 108 has been recorded by Denise Jakeman.

A 7-2 home win over Victoria Inn has taken Crown’s undefeated run to 30 games in the Rowley Monday Night League and although mathematically, with eight games remaining they can still be caught, realistically they have won the title as they are sixteen points ahead of second placed Springfield Social Club, who also won by 7-2 at Britannia Inn, the same margin by which third in the table Ex Serviceman’s Club won at home to Leones.

The Crown ‘A have finally got the result that confirmed they are champions of the Cradley Tuesday Night League. Playing away in the penultimate fixture of the season, an 8-1 win at Yeltz Bar gave Crown ‘A’ a total of 64 points their nearest rivals Chainmakers ’B’ failing to win their game as they went down 5-4 at home to third in the table Members Club to leave them four points adrift of the league winners.
Jason Lowe with one game to go has also clinched the player’s averages.

Springfield Social Club made it seven wins in a row when they defeated The Bell 8-1 in the Netherton Thursday Night League and with Netherton Sports and Social Club (formerly Riddins Tavern) having a bye
extended their lead at the top of the table to three points. Netherton Sports and Social in turn have a three points lead over their nearest rivals Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club and Bulls Head, who both kept in touch with close 5-4 wins at home against respective opponents Pensnett and Bromley and Rose and Crown.
White Swan’s luck got no better as they lost 7-2 away to Chainmakers to leave them rooted at the foot of the table still seeking their first points of the season.

There were big wins for both of the top two teams in the Stourbridge and District Monday Night League, leaders Ashwood having a 7-2 win away to The Fox (Lye), who are in the bottom three of the table and second placed Britannia went one better with an 8-1 success at home to bottom of the table Crestwood. Third placed Ten Arches are on the same 22 points as Britannia they won their home tie with New Inns 6-3 leaving them and Britannia two points behind Ashwood.
After the top three teams there is a huge gap of eight points, Bird (Wordsley) and Brickmakers both on 14 points but they have played one game fewer than the teams above them.

Bulls Head ‘A’ consolidated their number one position in division one of the Pip Club League when they won 5-3 against Wilnecote Club, who drop from second to third in the table, three points off the top with four points. Taking over second spot is Birchmoor Club, who finished all square with their nearest rivals Tamworth Motor Spares to give them five points. At the other end of the table Bulls Head, Two Gates recorded their first win in three, a 5-3 success over Two Gates Club, who take over at the foot of the table.
In division two Sports Bar ‘180’ lost for the first time in four outings when they went down 11-5 at The Gate (Amington), not only losing the game but also pole position as they slipped to fourth position behind leaders J W Belgrave, second placed Pip Club and third The Gate (Amington), all four teams have six points, only average separates them.

With Wagon and Horses having their fixture with The Lions postponed Gulp Tribe took their opportunity to move into the number one spot in the Small Heath League with a 6-3 home win over Mitre. Both Gulp and Wagon and Horses have now played and won four games, with average the difference between the two of them.
Sheldon Marlborough Flights were engaged in the battle of the "Flights” when they played hosts to Emerald Flights. After losing the opening three games the hosts rallied a little before the visitors went on to win 6-3.
At Cobs Bar the home side were in no mood to give Clock Inn their first victory of the season and ran out 6-3 winners.

The Brierley Hill Friday Night League were engaged with the second leg of their League Cup, Bridge ‘A’ repeated the 5-4 win from the first leg against Dudley Sports ‘B’ to go through to the final with a 10-8 result. The game between Miners (Wollescote) and Pensnett Welfare Club finished with a 7-2 win for the Miners in the first game and surprisingly the Welfare Club turned it around in the second leg to match the 7-2 win of their opponents to level the game at 9-9. To find a winner all of the players names were put into a hat, three
from each team were drawn out and they played to a result. The outcome was a 2-1 win for the Miners to book the place in the final.

Two big wins for the top two teams in the Black Country Premier League, leaders Hasbury Monks winning 11-4 at Wynall Lane Warriors to give them a total of 20 points, and three points behind them are second

A 5-4 win at St John’s keeps Mackadown Social top of division one of the South Birmingham League, while second placed Punch Bowl suffered their first defeat of the campaign, a massive 8-1 loss at Crown-Forget-Me-Not, who move up one place to third.
In division two Coleshill Social made it four straight wins with a 6-3 success at Poachers Pocket, their nearest rivals Smithswood Social lost ground as they went down 6-3 at home to Trident, this was Smithswood’s first defeat.

The charity raising events for young Vinnie Whitehead culminated in a night of eight previously qualifying players taking on professionals Ronny Huybrechts, Kim Huybrechts and Rowby John Rodriguez at St John’s Club, Smiths Wood and what a fantastic night it turned out to be with a further £400 added to the coffers to take the grand total to £2170. The amount guarantees that Vinnie, who suffers from Menkes Disease will get the sensory lighting he so desperately requires.
Organiser Sue Kingdon offered thanks to MC John Fowler, Dave Kingdon, Charlie Kingdon, Mac Elkin, Dennis Stokes and Gill Poole plus the professional players, who together made it all possible.
