Darts News – A West Midlands Round Up By Alan Towe

Week eight of the Sheldon and District Summer League brought together the top two teams in division one, leaders Iron Horse Flights hosting second placed Langley Hall Sports and Social Arrows, the outcome was a 5-3 win for the home side to put them on twelve points two more than their opponents who stay in second place but now only on average from third placed Castle Vale Residents whose 5-3 win over Mackadown Social gives them the same ten points as Langley.

In division two it was top versus bottom as top side The Harvester took their points tally to twelve with a 6-2 win at Sheldon Dukes who remain without a win in seven games. Despite losing 6-2 at George V The Pirates hang on to second place with nine points but are now just one to the good on Sheldon Marlborough Arrows who have a game in hand.

Ridgemere Flights are top of division four and they were held to a surprising 4-4 draw away to Greville Arms who are just two places off the foot of the table, although they finished all square Ridgemere remain two points ahead of the rest of the field as second placed Meadway Sports and Social also had a 4-4 draw away to next to bottom of the division Langley Hall Sports and Social Flights.

It was a good week for Ridgemere Ladies as they similar to the other teams in the division had a 4-4 draw in their home tie with Highwood Exiles to chalk up their first point of the campaign, the point however was not enough to lift them off the foot of the table as they are still three adrift of Langley Hall Sports and Social Flights and Greville Arms.

A 7-2 home win over Boldmere Tap has seen Golden Hind clinch the division two title in the Sutton and District League, The win takes Hind’s total points to 26, six more than second placed St Thomas’s Club who were also 7-2 winners in their home game against The Oak Boys.

Boldmere St Michaels gained a vital 6-3 win over third placed Old Oscott Arrows in division one to see them take over pole position from The Beehive, Old Oscott hang on to third place.

It’s been a great season for Journeys End in the Forest of Arden Summer League as a 5-2 win away to Greville Arrows has confirmed Journeys End as champions of division one with 18 points from ten games, second and third placed Ivy Leaf and Highwood KB are both on ten points and in turn have played nine and eight games.

Journeys End Flights rounded off their season in division two with a 5-2 win at Riley’s Resurrected completing the season with ten wins in as many games and finishing six points ahead of runners up Riley’s Resurrected.

It was cup quarter finals week in the Kings Norton League in the League Cup division one leaders Court Oak continued their fine form in the cup beating Grant Arms 7-0. West Heath had a comfortable 6-1 win against Toby Jug ‘A’ while Hillyfields and Stichley United were both 4-3 winners in their encounters with Kings Heath and Reds.

Only three of the four results for the Consolation Cup have been submitted in which Cotteridge Social had an emphatic 7-0 win over Toby Jug Flights and not far behind were E57 who are second in the division one table they won 5-2 against Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club who top division two. Second division side Billesley pulled off the surprise of the round as they won 4-3 against The Coppice who are fourth in division one.

Is It In lost the Winmau Centre Monday Night League in the very last fixture of the season, going into the final round of games Is It In topped the table but a 28-20 win over third placed The Outcasts gave them a total of 616 points which was not enough to clinch the title as reigning champions 3 Yam Yams and A.Stokie (formerly What Are Thooose) recorded a 38-10 win over Keep It In The Family to give them 620 points, four more than Is It In who took the runners up prize. Outcasts defeat saw them drop from second and finish third with 605 points.

In week 26 of the Brierley Hill Monday Night League leaders Dudley Sports ‘C’ were involved in a local derby game with Dudley Sports ‘B’, the result was a clear cut 7-2 win for the ‘C’ team to make it 50 points from 26 games. Second placed The Bridge were also 7-2 winners in their tie away to bottom of the table Griffin and remain eight points off the top.

Third in the table High Acres lost ground on the top two when they were beaten 5-4 at The Bell who are placed seventh. Fourth placed Bulls Head (Netherton) also lost 5-4 in their home game with Brickmakers Arms who are tenth.

There was a rare win for Queens Head (Wordsley), lying next to bottom of the table they won 6-3 away to Roebuck who are three places and twelve points above them.

With all of the domestic issues sorted the Small Heath League played off their End of Season 501 Knockout and with a final victory over Neil Parsonage (Emerald Club) Tommy White, representing East Birmingham Allotment Holders Association took the title, losing out in the semi finals were Pete Yardley (Emerald Club) and Matthew Cooper (Gulp Tribe).

Louis Burley continues to impress in the Winmau Centre Thursday Night Champions League as he added a 7-0 win over Baz Pearce to his score to give him a total points of 139 from 25 games and a lead of 21 over second placed Kevin Harris who has played 24 games.

With reigning champion Mick Baker not playing this week Robert Pierce has taken over from him in second place, his 7-0 success against Rhys Langford putting him four points ahead of Baker on 116, however Baker has only played 21 games and with four in hand on leader Burley and with a long way still to go anything can and probably will happen.

No change at the top of the Cradley Tuesday Night League as the top three teams White Horse, Crown (Station Road) and Brickmakers Arms all won. White Horse remain in pole position and hold on to their four points lead over Crown (Station Road) after winning 6-3 at Chop House, Crown (Station Road) winning by the same margin at home against Gate Hangs Well. Third in the table Brickmakers went one better than the two teams above them as they won their home fixture with Wheatsheaf 7-2 to leave them four points adrift of Crown.

Fourth placed White Swan were the only losers in the top four going down 6-3 at home to fifth placed Rose and Crown who have reduced the arrears on their hosts to six points.

Banbury Flights may have beaten The Bell 5-3 in group one of the South Birmingham League but the best they can hope for is the runners up spot as Coleshill Social with 12 points and two to play have taken the title as they are five points to the good on Banbury.

Erdington Members Club are almost confirmed group two champions as they have two remaining fixtures and are two points ahead of second placed Crown at Shard End who have just one remaining game.

The top two teams in group three have only recorded five results and with three more to come in Mackadown Social lead the field with ten points followed by The Gate on seven.

Just two rearranged fixture results from the Netherton Thursday Night League which saw Bulls Head beat Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club 5-2 to go from third to top of the table on 16 points with a better average than former leaders Dudley Sports who now have a game in hand.

In the other fixture Delph Bell ‘B’ beat White Horse 4-3 to move up one place in the table above their opponents.

Four points is the difference between the top four teams in the Stourbridge and District Monday Night League leaders Ashwood winning 5-4 at Queens to stay four points clear of the chasing three teams. Brickmakers Arms move up into second place their 7-2 win at Bird (Wordsley) giving them 54 points from 31 games and a slightly better average than third placed Ten Arches ‘B’ whose 5-4 win at Bird ‘A’ ousted their hosts from second place and saw them drop to fourth but Bird ‘A’ have only played 30 games and wins in their two in hand on the leaders would see them go level on the same 58 points.

Dewdrop leaders of the Hilltop Friendly Tuesday night League were the sole winners in the top four teams in the latest round of fixtures, playing at home Dewdrop beat their nearest rivals Island Inn 4-3 to go six points clear of their opponents after playing 23 games. Third placed Old Hop Pole went down 5-2 at Ivy Bush who are just three places off the foot of the table and fourth in the league The Vine lost by the same scoreline away to Jolly Collier who are three places and eight points behind them.

Staffordshire Knot consolidated their number one spot in the Wednesbury and Darlaston Wednesday Night League with a 7-2 win away to next to bottom Civil Defence. Horse and Jockey kept up the pressure on the leaders with a similar 7-2 win over St Mary’s ‘A’.

With both of the top two teams in division one of the Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League winning the gap between them remains at eight points, top of the table Riley’s ‘C’ had a convincing 6-1 win away to next to bottom of the table Bradmore ‘A’ while second placed Victoria were 5-2 winners at The Royal.

In the second division leaders Sunbeam suffered a 5-2 home defeat by fourth in the table Bird in Hand, however the result was not as damaging as it could have been as second placed Pavilion lost 4-3 at Riley’s ‘A’ so both teams remain on 24 points.

Cleveland Arms suffered a setback to their title hopes in the Tettenhall Wednesday Night League when they lost 4-3 at home to Riley’s ‘B’ who are fourth in the table, Cleveland hang in to the top spot but now only on average from Whitmore Reans WMC whose 7-0 home success over Jones Road puts them on the same 44 points as Cleveland but having played one game fewer.

With the league fixtures all done and dusted the Tamworth league staged their doubles knockout and winning the title were Glen Cullen and Doug Thompson who defeated Martin Edwards and Mark Martin in the final.

The league’s Teamsport Shadow Cup final saw Wigginton Arms ‘A’ beat Progressive Club 4-3.

The Black Country Premier Darts League have got their third season underway and the early pacesetters and leading the field with the narrowest of average margins is Woodside Poachers who had an opening 12-3 win over Hasbury Hunters. Hot on the heels of Woodside are Britannia Bulldogs and Colley Gators who in turn beat Mighty Mitre and Enville Street Renegades 11-3.

Others winners in the curtain raiser were reigning champions Blackheath Beechers, Springfield Rifles, Vintage Gamers, Windy Millers and Black Country Belters.

Ashwood ‘A’ stretched their unbeaten record at the top of the Stourbridge and District Wednesday Night League to fifteen games when they won 6-1 away to Miners Welfare who as a result drop two places to fifth in the table, but despite being fifth in the table Miners are on the same 24 points as the three teams above them, trailing only on average.

Gornal Conservative Club move up from fifth to second with their vital 4-3 win over Brickmakers Arms who drop two places to fourth, Britannia with a 6-1 win over The Fox (Lye) jump up three places to third.
