Darts News – A West Midlands Round Up By Alan Towe

The Sheldon and District Summer League have had the first round of their Mrs F.Richman Cup on the fixture card in which third division side Maggies produced the only real shock a 4-3 win over The Harvester who are top of division two.
The round matched together the two bottom teams in division four and saw Ridgemere Ladies who have lost all five of their league fixtures, so far defeat next to bottom of the table Langley Hall Sports and Social Flights 4-3.
Other teams to progress into round two were Sheldon Marlborough Arrows, The Pirates, Castle Vale Residents, Willclare Sports and Social, Langley Hall Sports and Social Arrows and Holy Souls.
On the league front division one leaders Iron Horse Flights beat The Pavillions 7-1 to knock them down from second to fourth in the table.
In division two with The Prates being held to a 4-4 draw by Sheldon Dukes top side The Harvester with a 5-3 win at Iron Horse Arrows have opened up a three points lead. Highwood KB’s, the only team in the league with a 100% win record have also taken a three point’s lead at the top of division three after beating Yardley Ex Colts 5-3, Colts dropping three places to fourth in the table.
Division four saw top team Ridgemere Flights involved in a local derby with Ridgemere Ladies who are bottom of the table, Flights winning the tie 7-1.

The Shirley Red Lion Premier League have competed their season and only five points separated the top five players. Despite losing 3-2 to Mark Gwalchmai Mick Gorst took the title with a total of 56 points as he bounced back with a 3-2 win over Mick Bown he then won 3-1 against Chris Thomas and confirmed himself as champion with a straight 3-0 success over Dave Fisher. Former leader Steve Sidwell finished three points behind Gorst, he lost his game against Lee Harris 3-2 but ended the season with a 3-2 win over Anthony Daly.
Pete Silver took third place with the same 53 points as Sidwell but trailed him by six legs of average, one further point adrift of Silver was Paul Higgins his 52 points one to the good on fifth in the league Mark Gwalchmai.
The league are now planning for their next campaign which will get underway on the 1st September with a new format the best of four legs as opposed to the best of five previously played.

The Forest of Arden Summer League staged the semi finals of their Knockout Cup in which Ivy Leaf, who are fourth in division one had an incredible 5-2 win over divisional leaders Journeys End who are four points clear at the top of the division one table.
The second semi final was a walkover for division two leaders Journeys End Flights whose opponents Highwood KB failed to turn up.

After playing each other Smithswood Social and Banbury Flights have swapped positions in group one of the South Birmingham League, Smithswood dropping to third and Banbury moving up into second after beating their hosts 5-3. Leaders Coleshill Social had a 6-2 win away to next to bottom of the division The C’s
In group two there was a top of the table clash between second placed Crown at Shard End and leaders Erdington Members Club with the latter winning 6-2 to give them a four point’s advantage over Raven who have taken over the number two position following their 4-4 draw at The Trident.
Mackadown Social took their unbeaten run to four games in group three when they handed out an 8-0 whitewash to their visitors bottom of the table Toby Jug, second placed Banbury Arrows were held to a 4-4 draw at home to The Gate and now trail Mackadown by three points.

Langley Hall Sports and Social Club at Olton was the setting for a charity match between a Jaime Carter Select and the Gulp Charity Team. The result was a close 8-7 victory for the select side but the outcome of the match was secondary as the biggest winner was Birmingham Children’s Hospital who will benefit to the tune of £360 the proceeds from the game, a fine night of darts and a fantastic effort for charity.

Week two of the new season in the Harborne and District League and in the singles league Weoley Castle Pub with maximums from both C.Millward and D.Nicholls beat Hillyfields ‘B’ 5-1 to open up a one point lead over Sportsman Flights who take over from Weoley Castle WMC in second place after beating their rivals 5-1, the losers dropping to fourth place behind Hillyfields ‘A’ who had a 4-2 win at Bartley Green FC, S.Hodges recording a maximum and a 156 finish for Hillyfields.
In the doubles league it’s Hillyfields ‘A’ who lead the way but by the narrowest of margins as their 12-4 win at Bartley Green FC took their points total to four the same number as Weoley Castle Pub whose 11-4 win at Hillyfields ‘B’ leaves them just one point of average off the top.

Little change at the top of the Camp Hill League as the top four teams all won in week three, the top three teams Cotterills Lane Club, Holy Gulp and Devil’s Club all maintaining their winning starts to the season, Cotterills beating Tyseley WMC 6-1 to put them one leg of average ahead of Holy Gulp who won their home tie with Station Wagon 5-2 and third placed Devil’s Club were 5-2 winners against New Inns and are a further three points of average adrift of Holy Gulp.
Emerald Club moved off the foot of the table, their first win in four was a 4-3 success against Hay Mills Social, New Inns replacing Emerald at the bottom of the table.

The Sheldon Marlborough Cricket Club Singles League played off their singles knockout, both of the finalists pulled off somewhat surprising wins in the last four games as Jay Vaughan who finished sixth in the championship division won 2-1 against his premiership opponent Adam Plows and Alan Eden snr who ended the campaign in the championship division just two places off the bottom of the table beat Neal Rughani who was runner up in the same division 2-0.
Eden then emulated his semi final score beating Vaughan 2-0 to take the title.
The Consolation Knockout saw all of the preliminary losers in the main Knockout Cup do battle and winning through to the final were Paul Brown (Premiership) and Alan Wale (Division One), Brown getting the better of Wale with a close 2-1 verdict.

The Consolation Cup was won by Emerald Club with Cob’s Bar runners up.

Island Inn lost ground in the tile race for the Hilltop Friendly Tuesday Night League when they were beaten 4-3 at home by Sportsman who are some five places and twelve points behind them, however despite the defeat they hold on to the second place but are now four points adrift of leaders Dewdrop and are joined on the same 32 points by Old Hop Pole who won their game at New Talbot 4-3, Dewdrop were 6-1 winners against Hayes Social.

Top of the table is Dudley Sports and Social who had a 4-3 home win over fourth in the table Dudley Ex Serviceman’s Club. Second placed White Swan beat Fairfield 4-3 to remain ahead of Bulls Head on average after Bulls Head won 6-1 at home against Delph Bell ‘A’, both White Swan and Bulls Head are on 14 points, two fewer than Dudley Sports.

Staffordshire Knot, leaders of the Wednesbury and Darlaston Wednesday Night League were emphatic 9-0 winners against bottom of the table St Mary’s ‘B’ to consolidate their number one spot. Second placed Horse and Jockey had a closer but significant 5-4 win over fourth in the table T and R Bar while third placed St Mary’s ‘A’ won their home game against red Lion 8-1.

The Tettenhall Wednesday Night League played their singles knockout down to the last two players and making their way to the final with wins in the last four games were Louis Burley who defeated Simon New and Tony Durnall who won against Simon Pritchard. Burley and Durnall will now do battle against each other on finals night 14th December.

Week twelve of the Winmau Centre Thursday Night Champions League saw Louis Burley gain a vital 6-1 win over title rival Kevin Harris and follow that with a 5-2 success against Craig Capewell to put him on 122 points from 22 games. Reigning champion Mick Baker stayed hot on the heels of Burley in second place with 7-0 and 6-1 wins in turn against Paul Walters and Paul Boddison to leave him ten points short of Burley’s total with a game in hand. Long time leader Kevin Harris is now placed third and although he recovered from his big defeat to Burley and win 5-2 against Les Marson he is trailing by 20 points and the two games he has in hand could only net him a total of 14 points.

The first game of the second half in division one of the Kings Norton League saw leaders Court Oak not only win 6-1 away to Hillyfields but also stretch their undefeated run to eight games and their lead at the top of the table to six points over nearest rivals West Heath and E57.
Its close at the top of division two with top team Kings Norton Ex Serviceman’s Club leading the way adding a 6-1 win over Weoley Hill Cricket Club to their tally to give them 14 points from nine games exactly the same as second placed Grant Arms, however their 4-3 win at Billesley leaves them six points of average behind the leaders.

Wins for the top two teams in division one of the Sutton and District League as The Beehive made it ten wins in eleven games when they won 7-2 at Golden Hind Arrows to keep them two points ahead of Boldmere St Michael’s who also won 7-2 against Pint Pot Flights, their game in hand could well see them take over in pole position.
Division two top side Golden Hind were another team to win 7-2 as they accounted for their hosts The Park,  the win confirms Golden Hind as champions as they are six points ahead of second placed St Thomas’s Club with only two games remaining. St Thomas’s won 5-2 at Erdington Club to put both teams and The Boot all on 16 points it’s going to be a real battle to see who takes the runners up spot.

In their local derby in division one of the Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League Riley’s ‘C’ beat Riley’s D’ 5-2 to make it eleven wins in as many games and keep them six points ahead of the rest of the field. Victoria and Gilberts Bar swapped places in the table, Victoria moving up from third to second after beating their counterparts 4-3 to give them a two point’s buffer over both Gilberts and Ashmore Inn in fourth place.
It couldn’t be closer at the top of division two with Dog and Partridge and Sunbeam locked together on 22 points and also level on average, the latest fixtures seeing Dog and Partridge beat Pendulum 4-3 and Sunbeam win 5-2 against Ukrainian Club.
Third in the table Pavilion won 4-3 at Woodfield Social to put them on the same 22 points as the two teams above them but trailing slightly on average.
