Darts News – A West Midlands Round Up By Alan Towe

Crown at Olton completed their fixtures in the premier division of the Sheldon and District Winter League in the best possible way confirming them as champions with a 7-2 away win over their nearest rivals Crown at Shard End to finish four points ahead of Shard End who took the runners up spot.
In division one Solihull Moors lost their final game 5-4 away to third in the table Iron Horse who with 30 points are on the same number of points as second placed Highwood KB’s and with both teams having one rearranged fixture to play the outcome of those games will decide who will finish as runners up.
Crown Arrows ended their season in division two with a 7-2 win at Highwood Exiles having lost only one of their eighteen games giving them 34 point’s four ahead of second placed Highwood Arrows who still have one fixture to play.
The shadow league titles went to Mackadown Social (Premier division), Willclare Sports and Social (division one) and Small Heath Amateur Gardeners (division two).

It was cup final week in the South Birmingham League the Roy Parry Cup seeing the league’s top two teams square up to each other in what was a very close 5-4 result going to league runners up Erdington Members Club with the league champions Mackadown Social runners up.

The Forest of Arden Summer League played off the first round of their Knockout Cup in which there were wins for Journeys End, Ivy Leaf, Greville Arrows and Highwood Exiles who in turn defeated Crown Arrow Flights, Chelmsley Town, Inn On The Green and Riley’s Resurrected.

Week three in the new Sheldon Marlborough Cricket Club Singles League and leading the premiership division is Dave Howlett who this week added 2-0 wins over both Paul Brown and Liam O’Donnell to his tally to give him a total of 10 points from his first six games. Sean O’Donnell in second place is the only player in the division to have won all of his games he took his number of wins to five with a 2-1 win over Liam O’Donnell to give him the same ten points as Howlett but from five games.
Leader of the championship division is Ken Salsbury who holds on to the number one spot despite losing both of his games, 2-0 against Matt Murrin and 2-1 against Pete Jones, Jones joins Salsbury on eight points even though he has played one game fewer.
Steve McCarthy is the only other player in the league not to have lost so far and leads division one with a perfect 12 points his latest wins being 2-1 against John Young and Marie Jenkins to open up a four points lead to second placed Alan Wale.

The Winmau Thursday Night Champions League has a new leader, taking over in pole position is Robert Pierce whose latest games saw him go down 4-3 to newcomer Paul Boddison but then go on to win 7-0 against Rhys Langford to give him 43 points from nine games. Les Marson is just two points behind Pierce following his 6-1 win over Liam Baker and 4-3 success against Chris Manoila, Marson has also played one game less than Pierce. The Crown at Olton was the setting for a charity match between two select teams from South Birmingham League and Forest of Arden League who in turn took on the Gulp Charity Team.
Both results finished with a 6-4 scoreline South Birmingham winning and Forest of Arden losing, however the results were secondary as the evening was all about charity and raised a terrific amount in excess of £160 which was donated to the Harry Moseley Charity.

After last week’s surprise defeat by the Bulls Head, Dudley Sports ‘C’ have returned to winning ways in the Brierley Hill Monday Night League albeit a close 5-4 it was still a win over The Swan to keep them four points to the good at the top of the table over second place The Bridge who were convincing 8-1 winners at Queens Head. Third placed Bulls Head continued their winning ways beating Pensnett Liberal Club 5-4 to leave them six points off the top but there was a shock result for The Bell who dropped from fourth to fifth following their 5-4 reversal away to Old Star who are just two places off the foot of the table.

Highwood march on in the Shirley and District Monday Night League adding a further 6-3 win over Solihull Sports Club to their tally to make it sixteen wins from as many games and giving them a perfect 32 points, however despite the impressive figures second placed Shirley Red Lion are only two points behind Highwood their latest game seeing them hand out a 9-0 whitewash to their visitors Blue Bell. Reigning champions Crown Jewels had an 8-1 home win over Legion Royals to leave them a further two points adrift.

Court Oak have gone through the Harborne and District League’s sixteen games season undefeated, their final game seeing them win 5-4 at Hillyfields ‘B’ to clinch the title with a four points buffer over runners up Hillyfields ‘A’ whose last game saw them finish in style with a 9-0 success over Avenue Social who took the wooden spoon.

With one game to go to reach the halfway mark in the Cradley Tuesday Night League White Horse lead the way with an unbeaten 28 points their latest success being a 5-4 win at Roost ‘A’. Reigning champions Mick Gorst is now the sole player to have won all seven games in the Shirley Red Lion Premier League, Chris Devlin is also unbeaten but he has only played two games. Mick took his winning run to seven with 3-2 wins against Andy Hoy and Tony Daly. Little change in the Stourbridge and District Monday Night League table this week as there were wins for all of the top seven teams leaving leaders Ten Arches ‘A’ four points clear of Bird ‘A’ (Stourbridge), Ashwood and Britannia, Bird ‘A’ having played one game fewer than Ashwood, Britannia and Ten Arches ‘A’.
At the other end of the table the two bottom teams squared up to each other, next to bottom Garibaldi recording only their third win in 25 games when they beat bottom team The Cat Inn 6-3.

There were shock results for the top two teams in the Hilltop Friendly Tuesday Night League when leaders The Vine lost 4-3 away to next to bottom of the table Hayes Social and second placed Old Hop Pole lost by the same margin at Jolly Collier. The Vine remain in pole position but now have to share it with Dewdrop who have drawn level on points and average with them following their 6-1 win against New Talbot. In addition to the top two having 22 points the third and fourth placed Old Hop Pole and Island Inn are also on the same number of points.

Cotterills Lane Club had their fixture with New Inns cancelled in the Camp Hill League but without throwing a single dart they consolidated their two points lead at the top of the table as second placed Holy Souls lost 4-3 at Wagon and Horses and third placed Hay Mills Lions lost by the same scoreline at Grange Social Club.

The two Ashwood teams still dominate the Stourbridge and District Wednesday Night League the ‘A’ side top with 14 points from an unbeaten seven games the latest being 6-1 at Dudley Sports and the ‘B’ team second their 7-0 win over Crestwood keeping them within two points of their local rivals. Brickmakers Arms won 4-3 at Miners Welfare to put both of them on the same 12 points as Ashwood ‘B’.

The final of the Tamworth League’s Paul Caswell Cup saw league leaders Prince of Wales ‘A’ lose 4-2 to second in the league table Fox and Dogs. Fox and Dogs beat Prince of Wales ‘B’ in the semis by the same 4-2 margin while Prince of Wales ‘A’ won 4-0 against Wigginton.

On Tuesday 31st May Mile Oak Rovers, Tamworth are hosting their annual charity mixed doubles darts knockout with a £3 entry per pair and trophies for the winners. All monies raised will go to charity. At least one member of each pair must be registered with either the Tamworth Darts League (Tuesdays) or Tamworth and District Ladies Darts League (Mondays) registration is by 8:30 for an 8:45 start.

A 5-2 win at the Cabin made it eight straight wins for Riley’s ‘C’ in division one of the Wolverhampton Tuesday Night League and keeps them two points ahead of both Gilberts Bar and Ashmore Inn who have both played six games, Gilberts had a 5-2 win against Roebuck while Ashhmore were 4-3 winners against Wednesfield Conservative Club.
In division two leaders Dog and Partridge won 4-3 against Pavilion, Pavilion losing their second place and dropping to third with Riley’s ‘A’ taking over the number two spot after a 4-3 win over Lanesfield Legion.

Whitmore Reans WMC went from third to top of the Tettenhall Wednesday Night League after both of the former leading duo Riley’s ‘A’ and Riley’s ‘B’ both lost, the ‘A’ side lost 6-1 to Whitmore giving Whitmore 24 points and a lead of two over both Riley’s teams, the ‘B’ side were 4-3 losers at ECC’A’.
