'Nixy' arrived as a 150-1 outsider and left a week later thirty thousand pounds richer and the tournament runner-up. He also became known as the man who staged one of the greatest comebacks in the history of the game, before losing 7-6 to eventual winner Martin 'Wolfie' Adams. At six sets to nil down, Phill appeared to be on the end of a sound and convincing defeat. However with amazing tenacity he came back to level the game at six sets all before being edged out in the final set. The game was rightly deemed a classic and overnight Phill's name was known through out the darting world.
