WAYNE MARDLE TO HOST 2010 BRYDENS BARBADOS DARTS FESTIVAL

The ever-popular Wayne Mardle has confirmed that he will return to Barbados to host the Brydens Barbados Darts Festival from November 1 – 11. Wayne and his wife Donna were exceptionally well received at the 2009 event and Festival Director Michael Heal is delighted that they will both be there again in 2010.

"Both Wayne and Donna entered fully into the spirit of the tournament and Wayne has some ideas on how to make it even better for participants in 2010", says Michael Heal.

The 2009 Barbados Darts Festival was memorable for so many people in so many different ways – glorious weather, azure blue sea, an introduction to Barbados rum, fun-filled excursions, highs and lows on the oche, generous and genuine Bajan hospitality, flying fish, questionable handicaps on the golf course, dodgy tips at the race track, green monkeys in the trees, breath-taking sunsets, snorkelling over reefs and wrecks, over confidence on the jet skis – and Wayne's close encounter of the turtle kind!

"We had a record number of participants in 2009 and are looking to attract even more this year. Supported by The Barbados Tourism Authority and the Tourism Development Corporation, it is a great darts holiday which caters for darts players of all standards and their partners. Some of the participants in 2009 have already signalled their positive intentions for this year's Festival and they have been joined by a number of "first timers", adds Heal.

The Festival programme combines social darts with tournament darts where there is prize money of $2,000 on offer for each of the five major events that include darts players from the Caribbean and South America.

The regional players enjoy pitting their skills against new opposition and also have the enticing prospect of gaining a spot at the PDC World Championships by winning the Carib Beer Caribbean & South American Masters.

Representing the region at the recent World Championships was Norman Madhoo from Guyana and he was defeated 4 – 2 by the experienced Ken MacNeil from Canada. MacNeil won the match in the sixth game, against the throw, with a superb 119 finish – treble 19, 12 and the bull.

Norman can be proud of his performance especially as MacNeil then went on to give 10th seed Alan Tabern a scare before eventually going down by 3 sets to 2.

The Barbados Darts Festival takes place from November 1 – 11, 2010
